Evidently, Jeb Bush has lost over 40 pounds on the paleo diet. But now campaigning is forcing him to be open to more food choices at the Iowa State Fair. http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/14/politi...leo-diet-iowa/

I like that he says he cheats on Sunday by eating Mexican food with his family. Mexican food is hard to resist!

It is, like those Cuban pork sandwiches with pickles.

Evidently, Scott Walker is on a fast food diet with plenty of beer as he campaigns, and often tweets about it. But he seems to stay reasonably built. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/p...-america-diet/

Medionoches are the bomb. I also can't stand the taste of soda, but I will drink and enjoy a Cuban soda. Not sure what their secret is.

I saw that Lena Dunham, something of a champion of fattie rights and staunch opponent of "fat shaming", has lost a bunch of weight lately.

She'll probably be more naked on this new upcoming season of Girls than ever before!

These things are by no means incompatible.

true. she's probably be like Oprah. When she's fat she'll say "fat is beautiful, accept yourself!' and when she's think she'll say "Look what I did! Woman power!"

Some "body positive"(fat) model made the cover of Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition

You know the world is going straight to hell when even the SI swimsuit edition isn't safe from these social justice warriors.

I'm not sure how i think about this...on the one hand, it seems to be a yielding to pressure thing...but on the other hand, I do think it's cool that they went with three kinds of bodies for the covers.

But then if they really wanted to make a statement, just put the fat girl on the cover - just her - and don't qualify it by also putting a famous athlete and a standard-looking SI bathing suit cover model on separate covers.

What is it, like a game?

Sell the SI in an opaque wrapper, open it up, if you lose it makes that wah wah wah you lose sound from the price is right.

I hope they keep track of the sales of each and let the people buying these (men) voice their opinion that way. Pretty sure the only ones with the fatty being bought will be by her and her family/friends.

While the focus on weight in America is most of the discussion in this thread, it is certainly more of an issue outside of America where people are in general much skinnier and shorter.

In Europe, it is made pretty clear that there's "Europe fat" and "America fat". By American social standards (or even NIH for that matter), I would not be classified as obese. Yet whenever I take a picture with other people in Spain, I always appear to be the heaviest in the group. This is probably because I am. When I go to America, I feel perfectly fit even though I could stand to lose 15 more pounds (I have lost 7 since the beginning of 2016).

In Asia, it's an even bigger issue. The Millennial generation there is less tolerant of imperfections. They bleach their skin to keep it white. I've seen high schoolers count calories on the food they eat. When I taught middle school students in South Korea, the girls would line up every morning and weigh themselves on the scale outside of the gymnasium and some would go as far as crying if they found out that they were gaining weight. Others viewed body image as competition. Trying to get slimmer than everybody else to maintain the ideal frame at 13 years old is nuts.

Body image is definitely an issue. But as seen in Asia, caring too much about it can be as bad if not worse than not caring about it at all.

Just watched the season 4 premiere of Girls, sure enough in the first 20 minutes you get a scene of fat nude Hannah ****ing some nerd in the front seat of a car.

Dunham musta lost weight after they filmed it.
