I've been travelling quite a bit from east coast to west coast the last 6 months. Essentially I've been spending 3 weeks in Philly, then 2 weeks in San Francisco back and forth for those 6 months. While in San Fran, we've been 2 hours north and south of it quite often for day trips and just checking stuff out. Also have had layovers in Phoenix a few times (and will be there in 2 weeks) and I always go outside to have a cigarette and a beer. Anyway, I'll say this about the weather between the 2 coasts : when it's hot out west and it's hot in the east, there is no comparison.

The heat in the west is laughable. It's not even hot, it's just warm out. Phoenix is much hotter than San Diego/LA/San Francisco (SF isn't hot at all). I remember people in Cali complaining about the heat quite a few times and I couldn't understand what they were complaining about, it felt like a spring day out east. It does seem sunnier, though.

Hot days in Philly/NY/DC are sweltering. As soon as you walk outside you are essentially on a 20 minute timer before you are a sweaty, sticky mess.

I'll take west coast "heat" any day.

West coast heat indeed not as bad, but it can get near 120 in Phoenix and that's gettin hot.

Wait, maybe Dave just watched that Betty White show Hot in Cleveland and got this crazy idea.

It was so nice on the west coast we were thinking of moving there. It really does change you, it's so pleasant. Our apartment right outside SF didn't have air conditioning. When I realized this I was utterly shocked. I've never seen housing without air conditioning until then. We didn't need it once. Every day was sunny and comfortable, every night was a slight chill and you could open the windows and just go to sleep. It was like heaven.

Arizona, indeed, is pretty hot, but it's literally 25 degrees higher to feel the same. 90 with high humidity is god-awful on the east coast. It'd have to be 110 in Phoenix to even approach it, and honestly I'd take the 110.

I don't have A/C. We also almost never have the heat on and could easily do without it.

5 blocks from the beach in SoCal.

I install solar though, and mostly work in hotter parts of town, Like The San Fernando valley and it's much hotter on the roof and I go in attics too. So, I pay my dues heat wise.

We were very, very close to moving there permanently. My wife was going to get an offer to work in SF. With the amount of money that real estate was (real estate is epic out there), we came up with a specific number we needed them to offer us in order for us to move. It was 20k below that number, so we declined.

Part of me cried when we got the final offer. I've never experienced such pleasantness in terms of weather. It could have been June or December, and it was just perfect. You people are very lucky.

I've lived back east. It's not just luck that got me here. I did it on purpose.

I drove through Cleveland today and did not notice much heat nor much humidity.

I went to the rock & roll hall of fame, loved it.

I find the whole "hall of fame" thing antithetical to the spirit of rock and roll. That's just how I see it. Maybe that's a "hot take" since it involves Cleveland.

Honestly I never thought of going there because it is in.. well, Ohio. Driving to the middle of no where to see something doesn't interest me. Kind of like Mt Rushmore, there's no way I'm ever going out there.

Was the hall of fame cool? Isn't the baseball hall of fame in Canton?

I think that "stopped dieting" means "stop eating for the sole purpose of ************ and eat to maintain the weight." They were still working with nutritionists and doctors.

This stuff has been studied to death. Researchers have known for decades that changes in your diet cause hormonal and chemical changes. They also know that gaining weight causes hormonal and chemical changes. They do know that a constant feeling of hunger is common. They do know that the basal metabolism is messed up. The questions aren't that these things do happen, the questions are the time spans and the mechanisms. This isn't totally in the realm of people losing weight, gaining weight, or whatever. Any extreme change in your diet will cause changes in your chemical makeup (ketosis, anyone?).

Pretty much this. Everything doesn't have to be as expensive as you fear it will be. Part of you gets used to it. People are raising kids on $10 / hour out here.

The rock hall is okay, but not nearly as cool as I thought it would be. The museum section is way too small for the magnitude of the subject. I also think the architecture is kind of uninspired. I wouldn't say it is a disappointment, but it isn't enough of a place to go for more than a few hours. You'd end up spending more time in the science museum next door. The rock hall should be so much better, so much larger, and something that would shut the naysayers up, who would admit that yeah, that city finally did something to make up for the burning river.

For some reason, Cleveland is called the "birthplace of rock and roll" because some deejay played it a lot. I don't have any opinion on that statement, but it is apparently controversial in many circles.

A drive that is well worth going to the middle of nowhere for is Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio.

Maybe the 87 year championship drought has something to do with it. Living in Philadelphia, Cleveland is the only city in the US that I actually feel bad for.

What John Elway did to them all those years was downright criminal.

My personal opinion is the best Cheeseteak and the best Roast Pork sandwich in the city both belong to one place : John's Roast Pork.

DiNic's won best sandwich in America on the food network. They make a mean Roast Pork sandwich, but John's has been around forever and you can't go wrong getting either sandwich. As always, roast pork sandwiches are ordered with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe, there is no better way to order it. Cheesesteaks are purely preference. I get provolone and onions.

Keep in mind after eating either of these sandwiches you probably won't need to eat again for approx 6 hours.

Quality fatlogic ITT

Literally 0.1% of people that calculate their TDEE, plan to eat at a caloric deficit based on said calculation, and weigh their food actually fail to lose weight after one month of rigid compliance.

You're still hungry? Vegetables will fill you up. You don't like vegetables? This is my surprised face. Admitting that cake tastes good and being thin is hard is a much more healthy and less reprehensible attitude than cloaking yourself in victimhood based on whatever journal article your favorite HAES blog was able to cherrypick an out of context article from to justify the fact that you weigh more than your house.

Dry heat is about a thousand times more comfortable than humid heat. Walked around Vegas in 108 and everyone was dying but it felt like about 90 in houston. As long as you are sunscreened and hydrated it's fine. But sweating in humid air means the moisture clings to you and it's miserable.

Hold the presses! So it's not the heat, it's the humidity.

I guess fat people do have a tougher time in hot weather because they sweat more. And that means more mosquitoes in the summer too.

I've often thought a big impediment to fatties losing weight was the fact that they look kinda silly as they're exercising. I mean by society's superficial standards, silly that way. Might keep them from joining a gym or walking/running in public, for instance.

Maybe. But the biggest impediment, by far, is that they eat too ****ing much. Any other explanation (or excuse) is really just a distraction from the main issue.
