Kimchi tastes better than it smells, no doubt. So does sauerkraut (without vinegar) for that matter.

It's actually not bad rationale, though a little dependent on which fruits. People don't get fat by eating fruit, they get fat by eating processed foods and drinking soda/juice. Replace every processed food with a piece of fruit (and some other things) and every sweet beverage / beer with a glass of water, and for the most part people wouldn't be fat.
I feel like most thin / average (slightly overweight) people don't do anything differently than fat people, but are just lucky to be thin. Whoever eats processed junk (mostly everyone in america, often without even knowing it e.g. Cheerios) and drinks OJ, diet soda and beer, and isn't obese is just lucky and has no right to look down on obese people.
In the supermarket, at least 99% of the stuff is junk (though much of it is marketed as something healthy). And it's not only obese people buying it.
