Even if the solution turned out to be simple, I agree that it is by no means easy.
Have you read
YTF's thread in the Health & Fitness subforum? It is long but a very rewarding read. He is in his 50s and over the last year has lost over 150lbs, most of it by modifying his nutrition.
Do you want to get in better shape and/or lose weight? If so, it might help to figure out first what strategy would help, then look at baby steps. One of the worst things you can do is focus on the endpoint instead of micro-stages. For a lot of people, losing weight sounds like swallowing a whale.
