Yesterday, yes. Today was fine, but I've been sick all weekend, so the weather is of no concern.

Red Sox in control. Tonight is the night!
10-28-2018 , 10:55 PM
And now Brazil has it's own racist fascist leader. Great.

Red Sox WS champions! Congrats!!

A couple of my cousins will be disappointed. Red Sox make it look pretty easy.

dom the whole world is tending to go that way, some more and faster some slower.

too many people in the world and that means too many poor people. that brings leaders that rule, and democracy takes a back seat.

This Brazillian guy makes Trump look like Jimmy Carter
10-29-2018 , 11:17 AM
Why does the leader of Brazil matter to you? Surely there are worse people in power.
10-29-2018 , 12:25 PM
Some of our best friends are worse people

well, let's see:

because there are too many countries these days going in the extreme right direction?

Brazil is the 5th largest and 6th most populous country in the world?

Oh, and these words by him:

Mr. Bolsonaro has described having a female child as a “weakness,” and has said he would not treat or pay women the same as men in the workplace.

n 2014, he told a fellow lawmaker:

“I would not rape you because you are not worthy of it.”

In 2013, he said that he would “rather have a son who is an addict than a son who is gay,” and that he was “proud to be homophobic.”

In June 2011, he said he would “rather his son die in a car accident than be gay,”

In April 2017, Mr. Bolsonaro spoke about visiting traditional Afro-Brazilian communities. He described the weight of the residents using the word “arrobas,” an outdated unit used to weigh cattle and agricultural products.

“The lightest Afro-descendant there weighed seven ‘arrobas’. They don’t do anything. They are not even good for procreation.”

Torture
Mr. Bolsonaro advocates it:

“I am in favor of torture — you know that. And the people are in favor of it, too.

In April 2016, when President Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment was put to a vote in Congress, Mr. Bolsonaro dedicated his vote to a colonel who ran a torture center during the country’s military dictatorship in which Ms. Rousseff was tortured in her youth:

“In memory of Col. Carlos Alberto Brilhante Ustra, the terror of Dilma Rousseff … I vote YES.”

Mr. Bolsonaro has said he would curtail efforts to protect the environment and indigenous land:

“We are going to fuse together the Ministry of Agriculture with the Ministry of the Environment … We need to put a stop to the demarcation of indigenous land … indigenous people want to rent out the land, they want to be able to do business, they want electricity, a dentist to remove the stumps of teeth from their mouths … indigenous people are human beings like us. They don’t want to be used for political purposes.”

Mr. Bolsonaro has also said that there were far too many indigenous reservations in the Amazon:

“Our Amazon is like a child with chickenpox, every dot you see is an indigenous reservation … and the Brazilian people applaud [demarcation of indigenous land]. Look at these people, no political strategy!”

******

So basically, he wants to subjugate women, criminalize homosexuality, and raze the part of the world where get 20% of our oxygen.

I'd say that's worth being concerned over
10-30-2018 , 01:17 AM
Dinho will save them

10-30-2018 , 01:53 AM
torture is cruel. just look what john and zeno do to me when they team up. i feel the pain.

the Brazilians voted him in. now they get what they wanted. but they will behead him soon enough.
10-30-2018 , 01:58 AM
Ray doesn't feel enough pain.

Brazil's guy is not a million miles away from Trump, sadly.
10-30-2018 , 11:28 AM
Brazil isn't exactly a beacon of human rights and prosperity. This is like complaining that a hardliner was elected by Egypt.

The relationship with the indigenous people is extremely complex, to by understanding, however, nothing you quoted there says he's going to raze the Amazon forest.

I been crawlin' on my belly through the Amazon

Goat... I know my main man Dominic likes this one

From the Washington Post:

"She*told the station*that Stewart had said to her, “It’s not too late, you can still have sex with me and I will guarantee that you get your speed humps that you want.”

My father died last Friday and its hard. He was 94 years old and had a tremendous life but for the past few months he had been declining rapidly. He had multiple surguries and hospital visits and his short term memory was failing him. But he was never really in pain and went quickly and comfortably when his time came. I have never lost a parent , sibling or significant other before and the sense of loss is far greater than I could have imagined. It was a rough weekend but the comfort from friends and family has been priceless.

He will be missed for sure and on my mind constantly. You gotta admit though I was a pretty snappy dresser back in the late 50's.

Nice picture of you and your dad. My condolences. You would think that as we get older and our parents die in their 80s and 90s, it would be easier. I doubt it's ever easy.
10-31-2018 , 11:20 AM
Sorry, MB...looks like you had a great Dad.
10-31-2018 , 01:08 PM
Maybe it's easier if one didn't like one's dad, and one's grief is a measure of their worth.

Condolences, mrbaseball.
10-31-2018 , 03:48 PM
I'm sorry to hear your sad news, Mr. Baseball. When a guy loses his dad, he may lose the one person who comes closest to truly understanding and accepting him.

That being said, you've supplied documentary evidence that you were taught the importance of being a snappy dresser -- something that we all (I won't single anybody out by naming them) should always bear in mind.
10-31-2018 , 05:20 PM
Time will diminish the sharpness of the pain; but the pain of loss never goes away. Condolences, Mr. Baseball.

And Looking Sharp is always a good thing for most.
10-31-2018 , 08:49 PM
ditto with all said sir. you loss affects us all here.
11-01-2018 , 03:38 AM
Times are a'changing. I signed up for health insurance by clicking "next" 3 times.

I don't know if that's exactly how all of this is going to go down, but that's what I did.

So last night, the GF and I sat down to a scary movie on the TV, some candy, and some wine. Our usual Halloween.

Here's what we're tired of:

Teenagers being slaughtered at parties
Demon possession
Haunted Houses
Killer dolls or children
Exorcisms
Jump scares

Basically, bad horror movies.

So we searched on Netflix, searched on Hulu, searched on Kanopy, searched on Amazon....and we came up with a movie we hadn't heard before:

The Ritual, David Bruckner, 2017

We watched the trailer and it intrigued us, so we watched it. It's on Netflix.

Wow. This was one original horror film. It's like a cross between Blair witch and Norse mythology.

4 friends go on a wilderness hike in northern Sweden in remembrance of a a dead 5th friend. When one of them twists their knee, they decide to take a shortcut through the dense, dark forest. And, well, that doesn't go well.

They get lost and spend the night in what looks like an old cabin with a wicker alter god of some sort, and runes and totems all over. They all have terrifying nightmares during the night, and one even wakes up naked, kneeling in front of the alter god. Fun times!

They try to get out but there is some sort of ...creature that is stalking them...one that's about 15 feet high and strings its victims up in the trees and disembowels them.

I have never seen anything in movies like this creature. It is literally from nightmares.

The Ritual is beautifully shot. The filmmakers make the hike through the woros gorgeous as well as foreboding. The nightmare scenes are interesting and like nothing I've seen before. Both my and the GF never knew what was coming...

The last section of the film takes place in a human settlement where these Swedish mountain people worship some sort on mythological god....but who comes to them for human sacrifices....

This isn't a masterpiece, but damn, it was unnerving, scary as ****, and lots of fun. Definite recommend.

Solid B+
