I like quail. I like the sound they make when they're flushed. Years ago when I was in college, I used to hunt them in town on an as-yet-to-be-built highway right of way within the city limits. Cops would sometimes stop me to chat about hunting. The world's a different place now.
All the quail disappeared, as did the
horny toads. Conventional wisdom was they had been depredated by fire ants. I've seen a few horny toads lately, so maybe that means the quail will be coming back. I haven't really hunted since the 70s, but it would be nice to see them scurrying around.
