The burning ban was finally lifted in my neck of the woods and I could torch the pile of rubbish collected all summer. Made a nice fire. Book Burning will commence soon. Look out for my up coming notice.


Lots of deer as usual. Covey of quail cavorting about the area also. Finally received a good soaking rain last night but the rivers are still very low. Still at summer level. The Salmon are laughing at all the fishermen.

The drug colony near my abode lost a dilapidated trailer home because of fire. Still two or more on the premises, plus numerous cars that don't work, smaller trailers, and piles and piles and piles of garbage and junk. Looks like a place you would see anywhere in Montana.


The majority of tourists have left and no longer clog up the road system or restaurants or camp grounds. The hoards of bicyclists have also disappeared. Nice to have the California scum return to their sick and demented state, too bad they never stay there.


And that's all the useless news I wish to convey this Sunday from the wild lands of the pacific coast.

I doubt this mollifies Mr. Zee's witty castigation of our illustrious thread but I wanted to ante a big blind anyway.

I like quail. I like the sound they make when they're flushed. Years ago when I was in college, I used to hunt them in town on an as-yet-to-be-built highway right of way within the city limits. Cops would sometimes stop me to chat about hunting. The world's a different place now.

All the quail disappeared, as did the horny toads. Conventional wisdom was they had been depredated by fire ants. I've seen a few horny toads lately, so maybe that means the quail will be coming back. I haven't really hunted since the 70s, but it would be nice to see them scurrying around.

mack what kind of quail,, bob white, gambels, or mearns

Bobwhites. I've seen mearns in west texas but have never hunted them. They're weird looking. I've never heard of gambels, i had to google them to find out what they were.

I'm prejudiced against these people. They're paranoid, irrational and violent. I've tried talking to them about behavior and consequences and it was like nobody was home. Complete brick wall. Now I wouldn't bother.

I haven't had to deal with it since the 80s, but if I do again I'll just walk into the sheriff's office and talk it over with them.
