Thanks.

Everybody likes Zeno. All his grumpiness is just a desperate attempt to cover up his true pollyannaish/rebecca-of-sunnybrook-farm nature.

We're all supposed to be poker players. This is a very basic read. There was a Shirley Temple movie that covered this, but I can't remember which.

It's not a cover up.

I played poker yesterday. Sometimes it's a nice distraction.

I made a gross error above with 1% of the population. Just taking the current US population the correct percentage is 0.000001%. That would equal about 325 people. Being liked by more than that would be way too bothersome.

Curmudgeonly is an apt descriptor; putting a polite spin on my nature.

You could blame God, if you wish.

Thanks, Phat. However misplaced it may be. Anyway, I think Karl Kraus said things much better. Some quotes are linked below for all to Enjoy.

I think I'm going to join Zeno as a fellow misanthrope.

Has the look and feel of a Paul Dirac equation. Makes my day.

Apparently, this is the case. Flip flops, which I can't wear, have been retired with this colder weather. I'm preparing to go into full hibernation mode for the next three months--or take a trip to warmer climes. Or take a trip to South Lake Tahoe in December.

We said goodbye to our friend Tim tonight, a group of us who have known each other for between 40-50 years. Although we share collective memories, some of those memories are a bit fuzzy, but mostly we can all fill in whatever details remain obscure.

But some things remain clear: the abiding love and friendship we have shared over these many years endures still.

I remember clearly the first time I met Tim's wife, Lynn, some thirty-five years ago. I knew the moment I met her that they would be married. And when they met Mary a couple years later, they knew we would be together for a long time.

We've all had our separate lives with other friends and families, but we came together tonight as we have every summer for years--Andy and Nancy, Phil and Jeanne, Mike and Carol, Bones and Mary Lou, Rick, and Lynn--to comfort and remember. In his moving eulogy, Bones paid tribute to our friend. And he also mentioned all of us because none of has ever had to go it alone. For that, I think we are all thankful.

My friend Rob is renting a condo there for five months. He's retired but works as a ski instructor a few hours a week to ski for free. I just need to select the dates that aren't reserved already.
