The whole thing is available on the iPlayer in the UK and I don't know where you can see it in the rest of the world but here's an interview about it if you want to know more:

Devastating.

I am praying for all those affected by the fires in California. Some scenes have made me inexorably sad.

Why are all those roads closed up by Santa Barbara?

Crazy's has the best fish and chips on the coast. Been there many times. But, no, that beer pic was taken in some silly place in Northern California. On one of my drunken rampages to and from La-La land.

on the south coast. best on the north coast is the bowpicker in astoria. its an old boat called a bowpicker and serves tuna fish and chips. the owner is a tuna fisherman and thats where much of his catch goes. always a line from opening to closing.

So, I have health insurance now. I'm looking at the website and I have no clue what I'm supposed to do with it.

It includes acupuncture, so maybe that's a good place to start.

What's the difference between an ophthalmologist, optician, optometrist?

Ugh... you need a college degree to understand this stuff.
11-14-2018 , 09:50 AM
Dave,

You don't really need to do anything with it. Doctors' offices will tell you what the copay amounts to for stuff like annual physicals. Just present your card. The optometrist, optician, and opthalmologist distinction isn't difficult. If you need glasses, go to an optometrist; an optician makes them. If your eyes are ****ed up, go to an opthalmologist.

What's a yearly checkup?

I had a choice between a PPO and an HMO. To do HMO, I had to have a primary physician. I obviously have a PPO because I don't really even know what a primary physician is, much less know why I'd need one.

To make things more confusing, I think I have another insurer for eye and dental... or maybe I don't. My usual dentist is cheap for LA, and I usually go to Lens Crafters for my contacts. They've been telling me to buy glasses for the past 10 years.

It's kinda strange to think I'd have to start going to other places for this stuff.

if it has dental then it most likely a plan from an employer. so thats great but get any dental work done soon as possible as few plans cover dental. at least the ones you pay for.

you go see your primary doctor first for things like a checkup and go from there. if you have a health maintenece organization, hmo. they take care of most of the stuff and refer you to their doctors for things.

the big thing is to see if you have a deductable and what it is. and get everything done as long as you are on the plan that pays for it.

A primary care physician is just the doctor you would describe as "your doctor" who would generally be the first doctor you would go see for non-emergency things. If you don't have one, then you look at the website of the local clinic in the network, see who's accepting new patients, and then pick one. The HMO model generally wants you going to your doctor first for most everything, and then your doctor makes referrals to other doctors in the system as needed. In exchange, it's cheaper for you. The PPO model gives you the flexibility to see whatever doctor you want, but you pay more for it.
