Opinions on Fluevogs as a main go-to shoe for formal things at work, weddings, nights out at classy clubs/bars?

e.g. http://www.fluevog.com/code/?w%5B0%5...&colourID=3052 in black

While broguing and wingtips in general are considered classically informal, I think most non-fashion experts would assume the opposite.

As mentioned previously, most females I know consider shoes with broguing "old-man'ish"

Has anyone had a custom suit made? For less than a Brooks Brothers Golden Fleese, this company (one of many) will make one just for you.

I've got a couple nothing too fancy though. I got one made in Hong Kong for around £70-80 and one in Thailand for £80-90.

It's far cheaper and they fit perfectly.

Today they are being used in more business like settings, but like I stated, that wasn't their original use:

Quote:
A brief history of the brogue
Starting life in the highlands of Scotland and in Ireland, this heavy leather shoe was traditionally seen as a country shoe, patterned with punch holes, or brogueing, to allow good drainage in the boglands. They're also known as 'wingtips' in America due to the distinctive 'w' pattern of the brogueing on the toe.

When to wear the brogue
Once seen as solely appropriate for country jaunts, the brogue has now been embraced as one of the most versatile of shoes, pretty much acceptable everywhere.

Awesome deal going right now at Lands' End Canvas:

$30 for $60 at LEC with this living social deal:

This is a newer, younger line from LE. They tend to follow JCrew for a lot of fashion trends.

but the opinions of females are not worth much because females know little about mens fashion!

FWIW I get many compliments from women on my Strands. But at 39, maybe I am an old man.

The truth with women is that almost all only know men's clothing up to a certain acceptable level of averageness. This makes it pretty trivial to buy decent, cheap clothing to look good to women.

Going past that, you're mostly dressing for yourself. It's an expression of individuality, to signal the sort of person you are and the message you want to communicate with just a glance. But unless you dress really really well, girls don't notice. There's a dead zone between acceptable and really awesome that girls don't see. But if you do dress really well, you will leave a strong emotional impression.

So dress to look anywhere from acceptable to pretty good, but don't bother trying to look better for girls unless you want to go all the way (i.e. push it to the limit!!!1!1)

I need a nice jacket(no leather) for autumn. I live in Finland so the jacket needs to be pretty warm. My budget is about 200€. European shops only because I don't want to pay heaps for shipping and customs.

Tips?

I'd jump on those Pointers, they look really good. I don't care much for the PS and the Adidas' look too "street" inspired for me.

pointer = pretty good value for the money imo.

Quote:
Established in 2004, Pointer was created with the aim of making simple, well-designed casual shoes in response to a market then saturated with increasingly technical trainers and hyped-up limited edition sneakers. Pointer employs people it likes, from artists to interns; based in London, the company is backed by a creative stable of friends and co-conspirators, inspired and informed by everything from art and music to skateboarding and breakfast.

there is a store locator on the website.
but i cannot find a store where they are available yet, they should be available in the next few weeks i guess...
similiar models cost about ~£100.... eg http://www.consortium.co.uk/brands/p...-footwear.html
