Fairly big difference. They've moved away from being a conservative preppy brand and are now middle of the road Americana.

The best additions I can come up with so far are a vest and raincoat/overcoat.

So far I really like the stuff I've picked out and I think I'm going in the right direction but would really love some feedback and advice from the vets. Thanks.

The list:
3 v neck T's from Banana Rep.
Yellow button-up from Band of Outsiders (spring/summer I know but it looks nice and was on sale)
Random grey T-shirt from Nice Collective
Button T from Paul Smith
Black Cardigan from Filippa K
New pair of raw Rag & Bone's
Grey jacket from Wings + Horns
Wooly jacket thing from G Star (devoid of pretty much all logos thanks)
Pair of Pantofola D'Oro's

I'm pretty new at this, but I like a lot of that stuff.

Also, I was wanting to see if someone could do me a favor. While looking for a J. Crew I found this outlet mall http://www.primeoutlets.com/location...ory.aspx?cat=4 I wanted to see if someone could browse through the store list and tell me which ones are worth stopping in? I know I've seen J. Crew and Banana republic stuff in this thread, but just wondering if there were any other good/decent stores there.

Meh. Before I became a big kid I got swimsuits at Pac Sun. And Brooks Brothers is still sweet for old style preppy stuff (Most, maybe all of my seersucker is from there). I rock some polos from their mostly due to cost.

Ya I didn't figure there would be much. Just wanted to make sure I didn't skip a good store I had never heard of.

I am a super huge fan of the Banana Republic v necks. They fit great, are comfortable and look relatively casual yet still nice.

Alrighty, hoping EDF can help me out here.

I'm looking to buy a set of new clothes. New stuff other than cargo shorts, polos and graphic tee's. I'm not looking for super mature stuff but more for around ~21-25 area. Nothing too expensive as my budget is between part-time work and grinding micro poker.
I recently bought a $70 pair of Levi black jeans and it my favourite clothing item by far.

FWIW, I'm skinny and have a runner's body (long legs, short body) and I just can't pull off some stuff. Those V-necks look really nice but I just can't wear them. I think it looks terrible on me.

Any help/link/pic would be apperciated. Thanks.

I think Mac can get away with a lot though and should try out all different styles. Glasses are really something you have to try on before making a decision.

JWS,

When I was trying to describe the glasses I thought would suit you, this is what I had in mind. You should definitely consider getting these soon.
Thanks, I will definitely try a lot of different stuff and somebody will be there to help and make sure I don't do anything stupid. I'll definitely make a results post and you guys can be the judge.

Ricky,

Really like a lot of your pickups (a good amount of overlap with what I like to wear), particularly the cardigans which I've really been getting into lately. If I were you I would experiment a lot with the layering & fit of the cardigans - whether it be sleeves rolled, worn unbuttoned & drapey, worn over henley's, worn over shirts, worn buttoned etc etc - until you find a look you think looks cool and doesn't make you look old-mannish, which can be the one downfall of some cardigan fits.

En Passant,

Pm me a link to the jacket and I'll give you my opinion. Farinelli is a great guy, but has been having some troubles with people abusing discounts lately.

Adam,

A little bit of research will go a long ways. Plus, alot of people at the department stores you listed really don't know as much about fit & styling as you would expect. Plus I think clothing should reflect personality and if it doesn't you will probably come off as a poser / try hard.

In general I love the recent flurry of discussion. Never quite understood how there wasn't more clothing talk in a forum obessed with self-improvement and female relations.

Look forward to the results post. Take someone with you who has an open mind.

Quick question if you dont mind. Say on the V necks in the picture above, where should the bottom of the shirt come to rest on your body for good fit(if worn untucked)?

It really depends how/what kind of jeans your wearing

I guess give me some example of jeans you wear and where you think they should fall. I am mostly wearing jeans from the buckle at the moment(not sure of the type as I am at work).

If it comes past your belt and doesn't look like a dress, you're okay. If the shoulders and chest fit, then most likely the length will be fine. If it's not, then it will probably be obvious to you, and if not then just post a photo or something.

I wear them with BigStars and BKE jeans sometimes (those are both buckle jeans). I usually make sure they fit in the chest and shoulders and then have them go down to my upper thigh region. As long as they don't go below the crotch seam and don't come above your pockets they should be about right.

quick simple fashion tip, steer clear of graphic tees (short or longsleeve doesnt matter)

So, I'm not quite there yet as I have a lot of reading to do and some money to wire, but when I get around to buying my new wardrobe (probably in ~ 2 weeks) should I keep the discussion in here or start a new thread? Don't want to hijack this thread too much, but not sure if it warrants its own thread.

I would keep the discussion in here unless your going to be buying your wardrobe over a big time span. There was a thread very recently about someone else who was completely redoing their wardrobe as well and they just created a new one. He was going to be buying over a long time and at different stores.

I'm not sure what a long time is, but the bulk of it will probably be bought within 1 month it seems like and probably multiple stores.

I would probably create your own thread then. Explain what your looking to accomplish, budget, tell people what your looking to achieve. This time make it look like your willing to put in some effort too such as reading a book or too, things along those lines. Ask people their opinions on good department stores or places to go for certain items.
