Thoughts with jeans or khakis? Looking for something causal to wear with jeans.

So I purchased two pair of J. Crew Urban Slim Fit 100% cotton chinos today. They fit like a dream...but a question:

The length is currently perfect, like a 1/4-1/2 a break. They are 34 length and I am 6'4, so there really isn't a lot of room for shrinkage. Multiple salespeople told me they wouldn't shrink as they are pre-shrunk.

Do you buy this? Do you think they are safe to wash?

I cold wash and air dry mine and have not experienced any shrinkage.

Actually, I just noticed they are hemmed with over an inch of extra fabric. No reason to stress about it now that I know I could at least have it let out.

I got some decent loafer socks from banana republic. Don't really have anything to compare them to as I don't wear loafers and purchased them accidently, but they were pretty decent

How do you "break in" a pair of dress shoes?

Polish them?

What about the leather sole?

Anything else? Links?

(I have a shoe tree)

Ie. what stuff should I buy, and which steps, if any, should I go through after having bought a new pair of Oxford's before wearing them? (I bought the Tricker's Regent, which I spotted on sale).I have zero experience with this kind of footwear. Thx ahead.

Lol. They don't need a protective layer of something (similar to when you buy RWs/Timberlands etc)? What about the leather sole - I'm guessing it will be worn out pretty fast, no?

I'm just protecting myself from having to make a whiny post in 8 months, where someone replies, "well, obv they arent in great condition anymore because you didn't do X, Y or Z".

Here's what I normally do:

1. Immediately apply leather conditioner, especially to the front uppers where they will crease as you walk. You have no idea how long they've been sitting on the shelf, so might as well condition them. (I use Lexol).
2. Polish if you want to add a slight protective layer
3. I personally use the rubber half-soles and heel plates. I wear down the outer edges of my heels terribly, so the plates ($5 installed) were a must have for me. The half-soles ($20 installed) are just nice to have for slightly better grip and bad weather.

In post #2946, I asked if anyone was "tapping" their shoes.

I wear down the outter edges of my heels too. How wide are the plates on your shoes? In pics it look like plates are only a few inches wide. Does it feel like you are walking on a flat shoe or does it feel like you are balancing yourself on center of shoe/plate (if you know what I'm trying to say)? Add in other observations/recommendations about plates.

For sneakers with jeans, it's pretty hard to beat Common Projects: http://www.tresbienshop.com/brand/common-projects

Not cheap, but they also wear like iron.

Anyone have any advice on what goes with these shoes?

All I have in my wardrobe that I can think of is dark blue jeans with orange-ish stiching...a plain black shirt, dog tag, and I guess I'll have orange ear buds tucked into the shirt so the orange on my shoes makes more sense.

Oh and if anyone can refer me to anything that relates to fashion + jordans, that would be awesome

Running shorts and random tee.

Those are sport shoes.

Just picked up some leather conditioner, polish and a horse hair brush. Hope this will be able to get me going

Regarding 3. Is it also "ok" to just let the sole be as it is? (I read something about taking a knife and making some very fine lines in a x-pattern, to make them less slippery)? I have really no idea what the "standard" thing is to do here.

The point of those Jordans (besides obv being used for basketball) is that they should stand out. You will never match the colours completely, and if you do, you might look too much like Turtle from Entourage. I think the way to wear colourful sneakers is to have more "boringly" coloured clothes to go with them. If there are a ton of colours all over you, you just look like a sloppy teenager.

A pair of regular or black jeans and a plain T-shirt.

They are obviously sport shoes, but they work very fine in a casual, urban setting (these specifically are on the "louder" side, though).

You don't need to do anything -- they'll get scuffed up naturally through wear. If you're actually slipping around, you can always just walk over some gravel, etc.

hay guize

I'm looking for unstructured, preferably unlined cotton blazers. I'm big, I wear a 48 X-long. These are really quite difficult to find (in my size) unless I want to spend like $400+.

One thing I did find is this LL bean "chino blazer".

http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/68370...e=chino-blazer

it kinda looks crappy, but it may just be the weird way the model is standing. It looks more like a raincoat or something.

anyway, just looking for suggestions. I figure these may start popping up cheap now that summer is almost over.

but llbean doesn't do tall or long in their signature stuff.

If you want good loafer socks, the only ones I have found are: http://www.socksfox.com/falke-family...cks-p-244.html

Not only are they truly invisible but they have rubber in the heel to prevent slipping. Totally worth the price and having to order from the UK.

Basketball shorts, basketball jersey, maybe a sweatband on your wrist or forehead.
