I'm thinking of picking up 5. Seems like they would almost have to be a good value unless they're just horrible.
Jos. A Bank isnt bad but their fit is usually terrible. I saw someone recommend Brooks Brothers, which I hear are good but I like Charles Tyrwhitt, which are usually a little cheaper. Also, it's European cut so it's a little more fitted.

If you guys sign up through my link ill sign up for yours and we can get all of EDF a free quality tee shirt!!

I signed up using your link but the shirts I want to buy are sold out and as such i have to join a 'waitlist' to buy some stuff.

Is there a legit backlog? Or will I somehow unlock the privilege to buy a couple t-shirts when I refer x amount of friends?

Joe Banks shirts are... okay. Their no-iron shirts are pretty decent, but if you pay list price for anything at JAB you're a fish. if you get the shirts on their buy 1, get 2 free sale they're decent for the cash.

The brooks brothers no-irons are better and worth the few extra bucks IMO.

No-iron shirts are the nuts, btw. If you send your laundry out, make sure you get NO STARCH because the starch will slowly degrade whatever it is that make the magic no-iron work.

I generally just throw the JAB no-irons in the wash and hang em up right out of the dryer and they look fine. But those I usually only wear with jeans or khakis. If I'm wearing a tie I'll usually wear the BB shirts.

And re: the guy that asked about a tie with no jacket, no, wtf, no. If you have a tie you need a jacket. Even if you're not wearing it in the office, you need to have one when you walk in IMO. I wear a jacket without a tie quite a bit (I work in software, so that's more than enough most of the time) but I would never do the opposite in an office environment. Especially if meeting with clients.

totally standard (darker brown is a lot better here). what else would you wear? Brown and blue are made for each other IMO.

I'm looking for a light, semi casual summer shoe to wear to work (relaxed dress code). I'm not a huge fan of the logo. Any other suggestions?

boat shoes are more than semi-casual IMO. they're like the first notch above sneakers.

Something darker would be more versatile for work. Sperrys are pretty good for the money IMO, if you really do have a super-casual office these would probably be fine but the light color is really limiting. I wouldn't get them unless you already have some good darker shoes and are just looking to pick up a pair for a particular ensemble.

I have these clarks:

It's got the moc toe and the grommet gives it a boaty feel and it works with jeans or shorts as well as casual pants.

Although I am a big fan of those (I have them in sahara and amaretto), there are a couple other producers out there - just search "boat shoes" if that's what you're really going for and don't like the sperry logo.

Also, as pvn stated, check out Clarks. I have a pair of their desert boot and will be getting an additional pair soon.

Boat shoes are not for work, unless you work on a boat or a hula hut by the river. If you wouldn't wear sandals to work, then I wouldn't wear boat shoes. Boat shoes are meant to be worn without socks btw in case that isn't obvious. Sperrys are pretty nice. I have a pair and they're great with shorts. I don't really like them with jeans.

Bluchers are better for work. These would be really comfortable and versatile for a casual work environment:

Quoddy makes really good shoes and they are on sale at S Willard. I have these slip ons which are a kind of boat shoe substitute and they are incredibly comfortable. Only 9.5 and 10 left, and you need to size down .5-1 size b/c they stretch. (these are for casual dress obv. No socks and not for work.)

Have a bunch of weddings coming up and about to buy a new tux to replace my crummy Jos Bank one. Leaning notch collar this time even though have always done traditional shawl collar. Thoughts?

Buying a new tux. Have always done shawl collar in the past but when went looking this last weekend, almost no one carries shawl collars anymore.

As such am thinking a simple notch collar would look good. Any reason why I should stick with shawl like I have in the past?

notch vs. shawl is personal preference IMO, either are fine.

FWIW, clooney, who is IMO the greatest living tux wearer, has been seen wearing shawl, peak, and notch, so clearly all are acceptible.

(aside: clooney vs. jfk jr, who's the greatest tux-wearer OF ALL TIME?)

anyway how much do you want to spend and how often do you expect to wear it?

Probably spending $1,000 to $1,200 and wearing at a couple weddings a year plus two black tie NYC events.

I don't disagree with last post on peak, but it isn't flattering on me. Also the notch would look better on Clooney if the lapels were satin.

notch is the least traditional. but at this point only superdick nits who suck at life are going to think you've done something wrong wearing it.

Anyway BB has a notch jacket in your price range. My FIL has a BB tux and it's very nice. I'm probably picking one up from indochino or suit supply later this year (I'm shooting for sub-$500), but I only wear one usually once a year (nobody does black tie weddings down here but I have some mardi gras bull**** with my wife's family).
