Sick bump

Should probably include some medical, fire, police, or law drama where every character is young and good looking.

So I'm halfway through the first season of Deadwood....I like it a lot. But I could without the preacher character played by Ray McKinnon. Never liked that actor, and the character is stupid, just preaching gibberish all the time.

I watched the first season and liked it...but it’s exhaustingly four and depressing. Never watched the rest. I hear it’s good, and I know that’s McKinnon’s baby.

I would also include The Crown now. Spectacularly show.

Northern Exposure is awesome.

No love for daytime stuff? I probably saw every episode of Las Vegas (mancrush on James Caan confirmed), had lots of entertainment for both men and women. The ladies, although devious at times, were quite respectable, and the guys were tough(but they still got their asses kicked sometimes), while both the men and women seemed like people that I would like to work with, or even hang out with(but I'm not cooool enough to hang with such superstars). Also, the black haired one is my favorite just fyi.

Battlestar Galactica would be on my top 20 now. Justified, too.

Binging The Good Wife atm. Never watched while it was on but it’s a pretty good legal/soap/drama mix. Kind of an updated Boston Legal/LA Law vibe.

I was sitting home alone on a Friday night when I turned on a new show and heard "In the Air Tonight" introduce the brilliant opening to the pilot episode of Miami Vice. I knew this show would be special. It was, mostly.

MV redefined cool instantly. Flash and stubble.

I thought MV was a brilliant concept, but in the end it was top-down cool as opposed to bottom-up cool.

Didn't watch many of these, but loved Northern Exposure and The West Wing.

The West Wing had what I thought might've been the funniest reference in television history. I can't find the video, but (IIRC) Leo fell off the wagon, and is being consoled by the VP: (paraphrasing)

VP: "In college, I used to like to drink beer."
Leo: "So what, everybody did."
VP: "No, I really used to like to drink beer."

Even though it wasn't supposed to be funny, the fact that the VP was played by Tim Matheson made me crack up at the time.

oh, that was a purposeful reference - they said so in the podcast.

There's a great match cut in the West Wing in the episode in which the president is screening Dial M For Murder. If I recall, the president opens the door to the screening room and enters and Ray Milland in the film opens a door and enters in the next shot. A perfect match on action.

I may not have this exactly right.

I kind of figured so. I thought it was great that a serious show like that could inject that reference.

I remember at the time, talking to a coworker who was also a WW fan the next day, and asking him "Did you see the funniest moment in TV history last night? It was on The West Wing."

OK, hyperbole, but it was really funny to me.

Dom, do you happen to recall if they discussed how that came to be? I mean, does it go back to casting "Hey, we've got this idea for a storyline if we can get Tim Matheson to play the part" or more like "We've had Otter playing the VP for some time, this would be a great reference."

I assume the latter. Not sure when this happened in the series vs the VP character being introduced, though.

I remember something about Matheson saying that at the table read, everyone looked at him at that line and laughed....so they knew it was a reference of some sort, probably just a happy coincidence.
