Re: Covers Only

Qayaw;

You might appreciate these two covers if you are into that rap to "other" genre cover stuff:

The Gourdes are like some legends in Texas. Can't say I enjoy this cover...

Yeah, I had that same hesitation when it kept popping up on my feed. The sax guy almost ruins it. I get it's live and fun, but it didn't translate well to recording. I also don't like Sheryl Crow, but somehow, it all worked out.

Re: Covers Only

A cover of a Cure Song. Actually, this entire album is good, but I'll just post this one:

And, if you are into trance, this cover is really good. Some DJs can actually play an instrument and do it well. This is Gareth Emery covering Dash Berlin. Same singer. The original is as techno as you'd expect.

And if you want something you'll really hesitate to click....

It's mind-blowing, actually.

Loved the sax, but we may come from different musical/chemical/historical backgrounds.

Don't know anything about Sheryl Crow. Always assumed she was country singer. First wife named Sheryl, so I give them a wide berth.

Re: Covers Only

We probably do come from different musical/chemical/historical backgrounds.

I was telling a friend the other day that I'll never be a Jazz / Blues fan. I can appreciate it, but it just doesn't hit me since there is no real cultural reference. He, on the other hand, loves loves loves the Blues.

I guess long drawn-out solos just don't do it for me either, especially when they are doing musical jokes. I get the joke to a level, but it doesn't make me smile as it made Clapton and Crow smile and chuckle.

Re: Covers Only

One year ago, there was a thing released called "Marble Machine." The video went viral and the musician did a reaction video to all of the covers.

I find it inspiring.

Wow, that was great. A lot of thought and a lot of work went into making that.

Re: Covers Only

A great variety of people have done a cover of this old song (including Billie Holiday) but I have always like this version, by the Marcels. Doo Wop is King.

If you haven't seen the original, it's pretty cool. He also has a load of videos showing how he built the machine. The machine looks fake, but it's actually playing music.

A favorite of mine since the first day I heard it...

...which reminds me of this remake...

Posting this was a bad idea. I'm addicted to any kind of maker's videos. Microphones were ingenious.

Re: Covers Only

I went to see Top Gun when it came out. I enjoyed myself watching it, walked out of the theater, and never gave it another thought.

Less than a decade later, they started showing Wong Kar-wai films in the People's Republic of Texas. I heard this song and thought it was kinda catchy. I've been told that it's a cover of a song from Top Gun, but I'm not sure I believe that.

Is this a level or a joke or something? Because I don't get it.

Who is this last artist? All I can see is that it's something starting with "Pom..." Definitely an improvement on the original.
