This one just popped up while playing through my youtube favourites list and I started wondering where I found it (and thinking that I should post it ITT if I hadn't already done so).
After some research, this was the post where I found it, and I realized I never thanked you for it.
So thanks
It's a great version of a really good song.
In his 'Born to run' biography, Springsteen has a section where he talks about how controversial this song was and how they were strongly advised against performing it on tour because the police that were supposed to provide security at their gigs would boycott him if he did.
The controversy around it was of course well know at the time, but having him explain just how hostile the reactions directed at him performing it were, really hammers it home.
In general, Born to Run is a really good book and a must for any Springsteen fan.
I love that song and have Rufus C. Thomas' recording/version. I think it is on one of my many Blues Compilation CD's.
And speaking of the Blues, my brother was lucky enough to recently see Buddy Guy live (in Parker, AZ). He sent me a Buddy Guy T-shirt. I don it with pride.

Living Colour is one of my favorite bands, and this performance of their song "Flying," which was written for the people of their hometown NYC after 911, incorporates some of 41 shots American Skin, in this extended live version. One of my favorite live performances of theirs, apart from Vernon's guitar solo, which is too long.

I listen to a lot of songs in languages I don't understand - it makes it much easier to pretend that the lyrics are as profound and beautiful as the music and voice makes them seem
This one seems to hold it's own in terms of lyrics too though.

Me, too. I know what the original was about. No idea about this one, but I like it...
