If you're like me, you hear a lot of so-called "classic rock" on your car radio. There are many great songs from that era, but of course they run them into the ground playing the same ones over and over.

Here are a lot of "classic rock" songs I've been hearing in recent weeks on my car radio, along with the number of times I've heard them.

Separate Ways - Journey (3) I like this one, I think it's Journey's catchiest hit.

Bad Company - Bad Company (2) This is ok. I do think Bad Company is relatively underrated.

Summer of 69 - Bryan Adams (3) I can't hear this one enough!

A cool old song I heard the other day when I was accidentally on the wrong station was Art Garfunkel's 99 Miles to LA, which is very haunting imo.

What classic rock songs have you been hearing on your car radio? Don't be shy, chime in. We all love that classic rock!

I listen to a lot of classic rock during the day and never get tired of hearing anything by Pink Floyd, The Who and Queen.

I hear the 3 songs you listed at least 2x each, every day.

I would kill for some Skynyrd these days. Skynyrd and AC/DC. I think San Antonio classic rock must be in dire straits lately. Plenty of pop country crap and Tejano though!

well today I caught parts of these oldies tuning thru the dial:

Def Leppard "Animal"
G & R "Welcome to the Jungle"
Rush "Limelight"
Metallica "One"

what does constitute "Classic Rock" these days? I still think of Classic Rock as 60s/70s stuff and not 80s and beyond. Like the stuff listed on the FREEDOM ROCK commercial:

but also stuff like Led Zeppelin, The Doors, etc.

I've always had this notion that the opening of The Spirit of Radio represents the static between stations on those old-time twist-button car radio tuners. Then, you
'find the song that's so elusive', so the signal is good and the music plays. Going out, the driver's tuning for something different.

Unfortunately, the time I saw Geddy, Alex and their manager playing the horse-race game in MGM Grand, I was too shy/starstruck to approach them and ask what they thought, or even just mention that I was looking forward to the show the next night.

Anyway, I'm old so I get quite a bit of that type of music on iTunes, but mostly podcasts.

My station, the Jack (lol), plays plenty of 80s but no 60s that I can remember. And mostly tame 80s pop. It's just a bad station. We had a couple of good stations back in the 90s, but they're long gone.

I always think of Classic Rock as the 60s/70s era, the stations here will play AC/DC, Metallica, and some 80s rock songs. The few station in Southern Cal don't repeat the same songs in a day but they repeat the same songs every day; or close to it.

When I was in Maui for my honeymoon, I was surprised at how much Skynyrd was played on their station, which was great since they are one of my favorite bands.

Recently I have gotten tired of hearing Led Zeppelin, if Dazed and Confused comes on I will turn it up as loud as I can though.

I wish I can hear a little more from the other groups like Simon and Garfunkle instead of just the main Super groups.

When I'm in classic rock mode (which I've been lately) I put my Sirius/XM on Classic Rewind. They cover 60s/70s/80s but I feel like I've been catching a lot of Rush lately.

oh, sick brag with the satellite radio. Yeah, I guess that's the wave of the future.

Move to pittsburgh. Seems like our classic rock station plays each once an hour. Lately they've been playing Queen alot, but it's the same 4 songs. They don't play nearly enough Van Halen though.

Houston radio has gone really downhill in the last few years. Classic rock stations used to be 2-3 deep here and now it seems like we don't even have one anymore. I mean I honestly listen to more rap and modern pop now just b/c those are the only decent stations to choose from on the CAR RADIO.

I'm a big classic rock fan, though. I consider classic rock to be 60s/70s rock. Stuff from the '80s I would categorize differently (even though youngins might think of it as classic rock). Some of it still counts as classic rock but I would call it either just '80s rock (like John Mellencamp type sound) or hair metal or just metal.

Classic rock is really just the sound of the mid-'60s through early '80s that encompasses blues rock, southern rock, hard rock (AC/DC) what was then probably called heavy metal (like Sabbath, etc.), and the like. And of course the behemoths (Zep, Stones, Beatles, The Who). Though the Beatles aren't really classic rock but those stations usually played Beatles. The Beatles are their own category, or you could say British Invasion rock, since that's a large enough niche from that time period. The Who were part of the British Invasion but their sound was much more "American rock" if you will than the Beatles was. Same with Zep. Zep wasn't even famous in Britain. They got famous in the USA and then went back to tour there later.

Yeah, the 1-2-3 SiriusXM punch of Classic Rewind, Classic Vinyl and Deep Tracks provides a pretty thorough mix of Classic Rock. Deep Tracks is particularly good - random obscure tracks off of rock albums which would never otherwise make it to radio.

I agree. I add in the "Jam" channel 70's and 80's channels and The Bridge has some good stuff as well.

But ya, XM is great for what you want to hear

This morning's catch:

Heartbreaker - Pat Benatar
Hate Myself for Loving You - Joan Jett
Renegade - Styx

coulda been worse, but still too poppy for my taste

I don't drive much and usually listen to sports talk radio. But I was out running some errands this morning and when I was almost home I remembered this thread and punched the classic rock station. Caught the last half of The Boys of Summer (Don Henley) just before I got home.

A little different take on this.
I mainly listen to classic rock via XM/Sirius channels and have found a few songs that I never had even heard before. In particular this gem by Pete Townshend which is one of my favorite songs to listen to now.
Give Blood
(Best is played really loud. Turn up to eleven)

I just stumbled onto a new station, the Eagle. I didn't even know it existed. So far I got:

Running With the Devil - Van Halen
Tuff Enough - Fabulous T-Birds

I can live with this, I think.

Around here they used to (or maybe still do) have "get the Led out" every night at 9pm where they play 3 straight Zeppelin songs, and usually their more obscure stuff sprinkled in. That was awesome.

Was "Give Blood" recorded as a sountrack for a film? It sounds like a montage scene in a one star '80s vigilante film. Like, something even Stallone had turned down.

Tampa seems devoid of a decent radio station. I finally stumbled onto a hard rock station and it's pretty good but it seems a bit much for the morning drive. I think I'm getting old or something.

Give Blood is on Townshend's "White City: A Novel" Album

Flipping between 2 local stations this morning I heard The Beatles, The Who, The Eagles, Queen, Pink Floyd, BTO, ELO, Skynyrd, Bryan Adams, Tom Petty, Zep, AC/DC, Van Halen, GnR, Terrible Ted and Golden Earring.

This was between 7-11am and I only listed the groups I could remember off the top of my head. I know there's several more I missed.

In Dallas we get way too much Steve Miller Band since he grew up in the area, along with a ton of Rush and SRV.

Question for those of you with Sirius/XM in your cars. Do you find the audio quality of the music is not as good as the local stations? I notice the local rock stations sound much cleaner than the satellite music, and wonder if others have this issue.
