tried
-rose angelis - right near apartment i'm getting and got great reviews, but the pasta and chicken were both pretty disappointing
-pete's pizza on lincoln - claim to have best thin crust pizza in chicago and it was really good, but with lou's around the corner doesn't seem too useful
-lou malnati's - obviously the best
-nookies too on halsted - ugh should've probably ordered breakfast food. the chicken/pasta was atrociously awful
any suggestions to try between just north of diversey and just south of fullerton?
also any bar suggestions (for low 20's age) in that area? met some friends at "state" on webster just south of fullerton last week and it seemed pretty loud but was a perfect age group.
also going to join the lakeshore athletic club cause it seems like the only fit center in the area to offer tennis and squash as well as having decent facilities, though it seems pretty run down and costs $100/mo.
tried the diversey driving range. not much to say about this except that parking sucks there as it was "full" for much of the day even though they wouldn't let people in as others exited. driving range pretty standard, off mats. any golfers in this thread? what are the go to courses in the area? seems like they're all really far away, kind of 30 minutes minimum. some like harborside and the glen club are close but are very pricey. was hoping there'd be some good options in the $30-50 range to play a few times a week next summer. looks like glen ellyn and george dunne are solid and the ones up north near winnetka/highland park are alright.
You are literally a 20 second jog from my place. Seminary and Wrightwood approx. Near Wrightwood Tap.
Do you mean Pat's Pizza on Lincoln? It's not bad. Nice place, bad location. I've only eaten there a couple times but it was decent food. I never order anything fancy though. And for pizza I always go to Sarpino's (Lincoln and Diversey...delivery place) or Chicago's Pizza simply because both are open until the wee hours of the morning and are cheaper.
Lou Malnati's is good. There's also a Gino's East at 2801 N Lincoln Ave.
Hit up Toro. It's close enough if you feel like a nice walk. It's around Clark and Deming. It's a sushi place. Just be prepared to have to put your name on a waiting list.
Also try Brick's Pizza. It's at 1909 Lincoln Ave. Great little pizza and beer place.
State Bar is awesome. Go there on Tuesdays at 8 pm (but arrive around 7 to get a seat). It's trivia night. $800 first place prize. $200 for second and $100 for first. You must have 2-8 people on your team. The whole thing takes about 2 hours. There is no charge to play. Great time. The place will be packed.
My other favorite bars in the area are:
Kirkwood Bar & Grill (Nebraska bar baby!) - It's a very nice bar, slightly expensive but worth it, great people, best beer garden in the city imo, TVs everywhere, and some cute waitresses. Same crowd as State Bar. I've never met anyone who didn't love this bar.
Kendall's - It's your basic sports bar. Pretty decent sized place. Food is average but they have decent drink specials. I go here specifically for UFC fights however. It's $10 cover and every table will be full. If it's an especially huge fight like Jackson vs. Griffin, St. Pierre vs. Penn, Lesnar vs. Mir the whole place a madhouse (in a good way). The waitresses are alright but the owner is cool as hell. He walks around, talks to the customers, and bought me a drink just for making room for other customers to sit down.
Barleycorn - Huge place. A bit loud because of the dancing that goes on but it's fun. Wide variety of people. And if it sucks there's 20 other bars next to it to check out.
Uncle Fatty's - Pretty close to Kirkwood's. Beach themed place. Very loud but good live music. Tons of space to walk around. People are usually playing bags or whatever inside. There's 3-4 bars in there at least. There's also a separate bar area attached (used to be a separate building/bar) to get away from the loud noise.
There are tennis courts at Seminary and Wrightwood (Jonquil Park). Just play there instead of paying $100 a month imo.
