Has anyone compiled adsman's story posts into one place?

I read this thread a long while ago and loved it, but may have missed some updates + would def read again anyway!

Note to any publishers reading this thread, I for one would snap buy ads' book.

Terrific stuff. Someone quoted a passage pretty early in the thread and suggested you use it as the intro - it was the paragraph about arriving in Africa and seeing the guys drinking beers as they headed to the funeral, when your friend turned to you and said "Welcome to Africa". Just wanted to add a +1 that I think that would make a great intro

My goal is 1000 words per day, every day until it is finished.

I have just written 1145 words. The total count is 45,738 words. I am going to need about 100,000 to finish the book I would say. Yep, I'm not even half way there. So shoot me. In fact, I'm still on the Canada part. But with your support I could get this done in a couple of months. Here's hoping.

By the way, if anyone knows or works as an agent or a publisher and has any advice or even contacts for me, please shoot me a pm. I haven't got them and I need them, obviously. This is me getting serious. Scary, huh?

ads.
What are you changing from your posts here? I assumed the book was going to be longer and more detailed than the posts. If they are the same length you don't need to change much imo.

Take your time and do it right. I will buy a first edition whenever it is published. Thanks for a good read in advance.

Africa part can def stay as is, just edited up for grammar, etc. I like your writing style - you just write sentences as they happen without tying them together with useless words like "furthermore" and "in fact" that take away from the fast-paced action of the story.

The original posts were about 20,000 words, (100,000 characters, so this is where you may have got confused). The average book is around 100,000 words, so I have a lot to do. I also left out many, many things in the OP. For example, while in Canada, one of the guides that I was working with had a black bear jump on his raft.

My family has always supported me in whatever I do, which has been a big help. I have written about that already in the book.

This weekend I didn't get any writing done. Hopefully I'll get something written later today.

Hmm, if only there was a publishing company that some of us poker players were aware of...

With no other connections, link DS to thread?

just read it all after being linked to it from a different thread.

definitely makes one question if the direction their life is going is really what they want or if they're just merely comfortable.

great read.

Wyman, 2+2 publish books about poker so I doubt that this would interest them.

1123 words this morning, talking about the river exams I had to do to become a guide in Canada.

2+2 just wants to make money. And it couldn't hurt to talk to some people with industry experience even if they pass on your book.

This isn't really true - they have turned down books that most likely would've made them quite a bit of money because they felt the quality or scope of them weren't right for 2+2.

While they did recently publish the 'DUCY?'-book (which isn't a poker book), that's probably more to do with who wrote it rather than 2+2 wanting to branch out into other areas.

Can't hurt to ask, but I'd be pretty surprised if they'd be interested in this type of book, regardless of how good it is.

This. Plus I imagine the 2+2 publishing people will be able to help point you to an appropriate publisher if they don't want to do this themselves.

And MinusEV is that Tim Curry in your avatar?

ads have you considered just writing +1k words a day on any story, detail, etc that you haven't written on before? That is, not trying to write in chronological order, but just on something that you remember and think would make for an interesting anecdote. I think you might find then that you've written a book of "best of" adventures from your life. then after you get an editor you can sort them out chronologically and if need be fill in segues from one to the next.

I think that might make the writing process both more enjoyable and more fruitful, and could give the book a unique style. plus it would definitely cut down on any filler and give us the meat of the cool things you found yourself doing.

just some thoughts. gl on the writing.

You're right that they might not publish it, but this whole thing was a 2p2 product, so they might be sympathetic and of some help in finding you the right people.

I'm not sure that's entirely true, but it is certainly the case that they'd sell many, many copies in the 2p2 stores if the book ended up there.

A personal favorite of mine is called Papillon which I read in my early 20's and thoroughly enjoyed and couldn't put down. It's not technically about traveling, but it's an autobiographical novel and great adventure story.

adsman, great story and thanks for sharing. Will def pick up the book when it's completed.

Just adding my drop in the bucket here and throwing my support behind you, ads. You've got an incredible, TRUE story here that has already inspired many people, and will continue to do so tenfold in printed form. Keep at it and thanks for sharing your experience with a bunch of degenerate strangers.
