Agreed. I think it's funny when author's are acclaimed for their first novel. Often, this doesn't mean first novel at all, but first
published novel. I suppose it is a marketing gimmick to showcase their genius. They are so damned smart that they were able to write a book on the first try! But I am of the sort that is more impressed to learn an author threw out various drafts or prior works before they wrote something worth asking an audience to spare time for. It took me ten years of banging out story after story before I had something I wasn't slightly embarrassed to ask others to read, let alone seek publication for.
You have stated that you found an editor and have a general idea of when the book will come out. Does that mean you have found a publisher? Could you speak more about your editor? Whether or not it is a freelance editor or someone from a publishing house, would you speak more about this experience, such as what happened when you were put in contact with the editor and the mechanics of setting up your publishing contract? Were you offered a deal based off of the obvious interest displayed on this forum?
Anyway, your story was an excellent read. I look forward to your book. Did you say whether or not you opened your lounge yet? My wife and I are sure to visit the next time we are in the area.
