Sorry mate, must have missed your last post. Didn't mean to be a doubter.

When I found this thread I read it from start to finish and will certainly be keen on the book when finished.

Best wishes...

I'm going off to teach english in Korea, this thread is a part of the reason for doing so. I've longed for some adventures before I decide to grow up (lol) but have always been a little cold footed about it...

This thread is very inspirational. It makes me want to just pack up my things and move somewhere. However, I have a strong feeling that I'll get somewhere with my small bankroll, not find a job or a place, and fail hard.

Being only 20 and in a new city alone with very little money and no connections is such a frightful thought (but sounds like a kick ass experience if you can pull through the tough times). Maybe I'll wait until 21.

Agreed. I think it's funny when author's are acclaimed for their first novel. Often, this doesn't mean first novel at all, but first published novel. I suppose it is a marketing gimmick to showcase their genius. They are so damned smart that they were able to write a book on the first try! But I am of the sort that is more impressed to learn an author threw out various drafts or prior works before they wrote something worth asking an audience to spare time for. It took me ten years of banging out story after story before I had something I wasn't slightly embarrassed to ask others to read, let alone seek publication for.

You have stated that you found an editor and have a general idea of when the book will come out. Does that mean you have found a publisher? Could you speak more about your editor? Whether or not it is a freelance editor or someone from a publishing house, would you speak more about this experience, such as what happened when you were put in contact with the editor and the mechanics of setting up your publishing contract? Were you offered a deal based off of the obvious interest displayed on this forum?

Anyway, your story was an excellent read. I look forward to your book. Did you say whether or not you opened your lounge yet? My wife and I are sure to visit the next time we are in the area.

Was 19 at the time and a bit of a loose cannon but now ive done the whole uni thing that i wanted to do and ive got a degree in ICT/IMD I would really love to go the whole hog this time and do some more travelling. This story has been a true inspiration.(Father Ted - Were i really remember the word Feck being used alot)

I was put in contact with my editor through a poster on EDF. As we're still working on it and things are not yet certain, I prefer not to talk about it at this point. As soon as things are more clear then I'll be happy to talk about that part of it.

What you said at the start of your post is very true, and I have written two books already in my life, both of which I would never publish but which taught me a great deal about the writing process. It's very difficult as you never know if you are on the right track or not. That's the primary job of my editor, to keep me on track.

Keep at it ads. I'll gladly buy the book when it comes out and recommend it to everyone I know. I hope word of mouth from 2+2ers can snowball this thing into a bestseller!

This should be your introduction imo. Even your random posts have such a great way about them. I loved reading your story and am really inspired. If I hadn't quit my job to focus on living my life and not working 60 hour weeks, I would have turned in my resignation after reading your story.

You inspired me to write my own of my last 7 years. It's nowhere near as interesting though. I'm thinking about writing a book about some stuff I experienced managing at a pizza place in the ghetto. Here's my blog about my life changes:

Incredible story. I am insanely jealous and rather contemplative about what I haven't done.
A life well lived.

I 1 tabled tonight while finishing the story. Truly Fascinating. I told my wife about the story, but first had to explain the concept of a forum and a thread to her.

I'm going down the class 5 rapids at Jinja (the ones that apparently end somewhere encouragingly called "the bad place") on Wednesday. Last time I was in Uganda I was too young but this thread has inspired me. HU on what to expect?
