I will never read The Notebook because of its reputation.

I will never read The Notebook b/c it's The Notebook.

I'm 7/50. Enjoyed all 7.
I've read 20. I'm very impressed with myself.

I'm 7.75/50, so most impressed by your impression.

Of course, I'm 51 years old, so I've probably had more reading time than most of you.

I am struggling to decide if the narrator of A French Lieutenant's Woman is artful or annoying. Thoughts?

My wife gets 22/50. I think that's winning so far!

She's got a PhD in English Lit and taught some in University and Jr. College.

(still pretty damn impressive Dom and you're still winning - my wife doesn't (and never will) have a 2p2 account.)

Shoot. I was hoping for 0/50 but have read Dante, Cant Tales, and Johnny Got His Gun. Ignorance is bliss, but now I see that I have just enough culture to know I am uncultured.

I was 0/50 unless you count about 5 or 6 failed attempts at Gravity's Rainbow which is enough to make me happy to be uncultured

I wouldn't worry. It's "50 Incredibly Tough" books. Being "tough" to read is not synonymous with good. A few on the list are real stinkers, a waste of time and wood.

Finished The Captive, Vol. V of In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust. More difficult and annoying than the earlier volumes. This volume was not fully edited by Proust at the time of his death. It's hard to know what changes he might have made, but there is a lot of whining going on over his lover's unfaithfulness, 560 pages or so of it, before someone finally acts and it's not the narrator. His lover leaves. It's a miracle she didn't kill herself to get away from the narrator's neurotic whining. Despite the foregoing, Proust continues to sprinkle the pages with his remarkable commentary regarding life and relationships.

It's on to Vol. VI, The Fugitive.

I finished listening to The 4% Universe: Dark Matter, Dark Energy, and the Race to Discover the Rest of Reality by Richard Panek (narrated by Ray Porter). It's a story about the process scientists went through to come to a conclusion about what our universe is made of. The actual narrative was good, well-written, focusing on the astronomers and physicists who discovered that there were problems with calculations concerning the amount of mass in our universe.

It reads more like a story than a science book (don't worry, no math). Unfortunately, the author focuses very little on theories of what dark energy might be, and instead delves further into interactions and bickering between the scientists. I'd recommend it for people who are very much into science and are interested in the backstory of how we discovered dark energy. But if you're looking for a textbook or theories, I'd look elsewhere.

Book: 3/5
Narrator: 4/5

Just heard that Harper Lee is bringing out a new book. That was a bit unexpected.

Reports are it's a sequel to TKaM. It better be damn good since she's had 55yrs to come up with a story.

Nothing major. It's the working title and a character's name.
Spoiler:
The title is Go Set a Watchman and will feature Scout.
