Please do not post trailers for UPCOMING films. As a rule, only post trailers for films at least FIVE YEARS OLD.

These can be trailers for films that more than fulfilled the promise of the trailer, such as

Or for films that ridiculed the audience for thinking they'd get anything more than a turd.

I have never seen the movie but I used to love the trailer to She's Having a Baby. This is the best version I can find. It came on the Ferris Bueller VHS back in 1986.

So there's this teaser trailer for Van Damme's 1989 "The Kickboxer" I could swear actually exists, though I can't seem to find it on YouTube, but I'm certain it was in circulation back in the day, and it's seared into my brain, and it's brutally awesome:

Van Damme is alone in a locker room or something, and he hears this muffled thumping sound in the distance, and he starts walking down this empty underground corridor looking for it, all apprehensive and ****, and the thumping's getting louder and clearer, and it sounds like someone swinging a sledgehammer or something, and Van Damme sees this closed door, and the sound's coming from inside, and he opens the door, and inside there's this huge bulky Vietnamese guy with a scar on his face, and he's blasting a concrete pillar in the middle of the room with tremendous roundhouse kicks, blam, blam, blam, and he stops, looks over his shoulder at Van Damme, and raises his fists like, "Come at me, white boy." Cut to black.

So sick.

Cloverfield is almost five years old. This teaser got me JACKED for Cloverfield and it exceeded my expectations. The head of the Statue of Liberty at the end with the reveal of JJ Abrams?! SIGN ME UP!

I will never forget the week leading into my first theatrical viewing of The Matrix. "What's that movie about?" Me, "Umm..it looks kinda like action sci-fi with Keanu Reeves and uhh it looks cool." Pretty sure I called it "The Vortex" a few times before my brother corrected me.

Can't deny the trailer for The Matrix Reloaded isn't fantastic. I enjoy the trilogy from start to finish.

Holy crap. Your description inspired me to also search (in vain) for it. The closest I could find was this clip. It starts around the same point as your description. I can just imagine if the clip had cut off at the 50 second mark. Badass.

Crowshow,

+1 for The Matrix trailer. Fantastic marketing campaign. I went in not knowing anything more than what the trailer showed. "What is the matrix?" Not a clue, and the movie kept you guessing into they full-out showed you. I really miss the old days when info about movies was hard to come by, and a teaser trailer was really the first look anyone had at the movie.

Anyone remember when this Batman teaser came out? Everyone was hungry for a single glimpse. Finally, it looked like someone was going to give a dark and serious take on the caped crusader.

It didn't.

Even after my first viewing I couldn't really tell people about The Matrix. I think it took two or three viewings before I understood the film.

That explains why it seemed much more modern than trailers from that era normally do.

Seriously, though, Star Wars EP1 was the first one I thought of.

The movie blew chunks but the trailer is one of the best trailers ever. I remember thinking I couldn't wait to see this film.
