Sounds like a soprano sax put through a harmonizer 2 octaves down. That's ****ing awesome.

i did. i didn't over adjust it though. i actually let it loose at first, then retightened it a bit. the relief actually looks pretty good afaict. might need to be adjusted more, but at this point i think i am going to leave it to a pro. thanks for all the advice all. really do appreciate it.

I am looking at getting a DIY kit down the track and I was looking at their website and they have instructions (basic) for assembly in PDF form.

They have a strat kit so I might just PM you that because it may be of assistance, since in the kit, you basically have to put the neck on, claw, strings etc and do all of the adjustments (truss rod etc).

I don't think it's any where near as detailed as Mitch's posts, but it has some images and it can't hurt.

I'd bet it's a bassoon. He used a bassoon on other tunes from that album, Mr. Green Genes being one. But various other brass and woodwind instruments were used too.

Can't be because it's 100% mirroring the soprano sax 2 octaves higher and sounds artificial. I'm gonna call my sax buddy and ask him.

Not 100%, listen from the 2:49 point.

My introduction to Zappa was that album and We're Only In It For the Money, the second time I ever tripped. Been a fan ever since.

Sorry, bro, but you must be tone deaf in the lower register. It is indeed replicating the pitches from the sax.

If you're trying to say there are two instruments that are playing with 100% exact inflections, notes, harmonics, glisses etc., you are really high.

Maybe so. 2:49 to 2:51 sounds like one constant note from the low buzzy instrument to my ear.

Okay, just got off the phone. It's a sax playing through a Gibson Maestro Woodwind System with the Fuzz Tone button selected. Basically a synth for woodwinds.

Found this on it.

Your friend's own fault in my opinion, for setting up said challenge.

I would be "Let's see you leave my brand new guitar in it's nice new guitar stand". That's a challenge I'd be comfortable with.

The upper frets on my Les Paul (near the 17th fret) choke out, especially when I bend the strings. What's the solution?

Cliffs of Dover is the happiest sounding guitar tune ever.

Various solutions that may work: use a guitar with a flatter radius, use hotter pickups, use more gain on your amp.

Les Pauls usually have a 12" radius IIRC which should be pretty good for bending though.

Thanks, but I was looking for a way to fix the choking. Does this call for a truss rod adjustment, raising the action, or new fretwork?
