Yeah, I second Monkish. They may be the hottest NEIPA brewery out there (partially because they are small as ****, so rarely can). But their **** trades up on Other Half, Treehouse, Trill, etc. But the vibe is pretty solid. Parking is a bit annoying and seating is limited. I got there at like 5pm on the dot on Thursday and every seat/table was taken, but I was able to stand next to a barrel (they have barrels all over for you to set up shop). And the workers are pretty nice, and they have food trucks some days it seems. They had a pretty good brick oven pizza place there when I went. I've had a couple of cans as well.

You might be best off just going to some bars. I've found that the 38 Degrees (there's one in Pasadena and Monrovia) has some really good beer on tap. Hell, they have bottles of Rusty Nail you can buy and take to the dome, and they usually have a few hazy IPAs, including often some sort of Green Cheek offering. I assume more LA-proper has really nice places as well, I just don't get to spend time there.

Bottle Logic's 100 Hand Slap is pretty solid, although they're more known for their stouts. I think a lot of it really just depends on where you're staying. LA is so ****ing big. But yes, you should be able to get some good hazy IPAs in LA.

Though, if you don't live in Modern Times distro (which I don't), man they have some pretty well executed beer. It might not be hazy, but it's on point. Like Blazing World is a ****ing masterpiece of a beer. I don't normally care too much about red IPAs or ambers, but this beer is just executed perfectly.

Thanks a lot El D.

+1 to ED's recommendations. I'd add that Cellarmaker specializes in IPAs and Almanac in sours if your friend has a preference.

Just read Founders CBS is gonna get released this year. $25 for a 750. Should be fun to try and find.

Not sure if they are releasing kegs for draft but I’m sure MI folks will know in the next month.

I heard CBS was going to be in 4 packs. Only 750 wouldn't surprise me though.

sounds like Hill Farmstead canning is getting pretty good. Multiple 6-packs available with pretty high limits. I really like the 12oz format too. I might make my first VT beer run sometime this season so it'd be pretty sweet to walk away with 6packs of Edward, Harlan, and Everett.

TH increased limits and variety are getting quite good. There's been some ****show line days, but both times I've gone recently I got there kinda late and walked out with a case in under 5 minutes.

while not a NEIPA, I thought Troegg's Nimble Giant was an awesome, awesome DIPA. And I haven't tried any, but I've heard some hype around brew gentlemen IPAs.

It’s confirmed 750 only. I’m planning for the worst(impossible to get anywhere) but I’m expecting there to be a lot more banging around than most folks would think. I just traded ~$2500 worth of work for a good bottle shop owner for store credit/first crack at his rare stuff so I’m basically guaranteed at least 1 bottle.

I think CBS will be hard to get. People will be buying as much as they can and I think Founders likes the aura or whatever around it.

Beer peeps,

Anyone have this year’s born yesterday yet? I have too much beer right now, but...

Also allagash fans:

Thoughts on those two Emile, Astrid and evora (brandy aged). Aquavit aged sounds weird/terrible.

yeah I was 45% trolling there

I love Troegs. Nimble Giant is a banger, Nugget Nectar I love, and Perpetual as well.

Showed up this past Saturday around open and there was zero line at HF. Limits were 4 6pks of both Society and Solitude #6 and Difference and Repetition. I got two 6s of each and a bunch of bottles.

S&S#6 is awesome but not as good as the growler of Martian Moon House I grabbed at River Roost on the way up. Seriously considering throwing money at that brewery to get them in the can game, every single thing they make is awesome.

Your guess is absolutely correct on the Astrid. Hard pass for me. One of the few Allagash beers I really don’t like. Up there with their Midnight Brett (or is it down there?)

Emile I would get if you want to spend $14 for a beer. I believe they don’t brew it anymore so if you want to try it there may be fewer out there.

One released recently around here that I thought was interesting was their Uncommon Crow. It’s made with blackberries. Thought they really could have lost this beer and been terrible cough syrup but it was surprisingly balanced, sour, and fruity.

This year's born yesterday is their best batch imo, featuring mosaic fresh hop.

Malice: Thanks, that's enough to get me to grab a sixer!

00: Thanks, that's enough for me to pass on $14 bottles! Target used to have that Uncommon Crow; if they have that again maybe I'll grab one.

Got evacuated from the MSU v pedo st game and couldn’t be asked to sit around in a monsoon for 3 hours. Luckily old nation is on the way home. One of my all time favorite beers. Boss tweed.

Nice! Bodeist sent me some Boss Tweed and M-34 and I can confirm they make damn good beer.

Opened this tonight. Buxton Brewery Subliminal. Tastes like old oatmeal and burnt coffee. No idea how a brewery can put out something as delicious as Yellow Belly and then make and sell this.

Disappointing to hear. As you probably know, Subluminal is half of a pair of collabs between Buxton and Stillwater (Superluminal is a sour IPA). I'm not much of a stout drinker but had heard good things about Subluminal and think I have a bottle somewhere (although a few people said it was on the very bitter end of things).

Not sure how far reaching distro is, but this year's Bell's Black Note hit shelves this week and it is excellent.

Friend picked me up a bottle on Friday. Really looking forward to it as I thoroughly enjoyed a previous years version some time ago.

BCS fans,

I hadn't seen this lineup that was announced in June. 6 beers this year:

Bourbon County Brand Stout 2017 — imperial stout aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels
Bourbon County Brand Stout Reserve 2017 — imperial stout aged in freshly 11-year-old Knob Creek bourbon barrels
Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout 2017 — imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels: one using with Black Cat Espresso coffee from Intelligentsia Coffee in Chicago
Proprietor’s Bourbon County Brand Stout 2017 — imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels with bananas, roasted almonds and cassia bark
Bourbon County Brand Northwoods Stout 2017 — imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels with blueberry juice and almond extract added
Bourbon County Brand Barleywine Ale 2017 — barleywine ale aged in fresh bourbon barrels

Looks like originally they were planning on seven, with a Barleywine Reserve too. As usual, Prop in Chicago only. The last article says that Reserve will only be released in Chicago and Kentucky.

looking forward to it as usual. BCBCS is always what i'm hunting for on black friday since everything more rare than that is almost impossible to find. Northwoods sounds interesting.

Bode,

I’ve loved all the ones I’ve had with fruit flavors like cherry rye and backyard rye, so really looking forward to northwoods.

Hope to get a bottle(s) of it, but if not there are a couple places around here that always have plenty of draft available.

Brag: got Speedway Stout Nibs & Beans (chocolate & vanilla) on draft at work. This beer is pretty damn tasty.

Yellow Belly was really good and also a collab. Sometimes hard with collabs to know who deserves more of the credit.

I had a barrel aged stout from Buxton on draft that got really good reviews and was just straight whiskey flavored. I mean, like really drinking whiskey, not drinking a barrel aged beer.

Similarly, regarding the reviews on this beer I have noticed this a lot with stouts from Europe. They can come across very bitter and chalky chocolate/oat.
