Chi: my perception of re was prob negatively due to my expectations based on reviews I've read and $14 small pour. Def tasty with very big barrel/bourbon flavor, but I just preferred the richness of the prop more.

Kid: I had 5oz prop and 5oz regal first. Then ~3oz rare by itself. Def no problem tasting and distinguishing differences. Then split 5oz each 2016 regular, 2016 coffee, 2016 prop, and 2015 regal rye. The flavors were different enough that it was still fine to taste. But tasting in different orders definitely had a big impact on taste. I think if I did another round after that, flavors would have started to blend together more. But I felt these were much easier to taste individually than double/triple IPAs, which quickly become hard for me to distinguish differences at festivals after a few. In terms of being bombed, not really. Had a bit of a buzz when I left, but nothing too much. Had a total of ~23oz of 13-14%, so similar to drinking three pints of IPA. Nice buzz, but not drunk, no hangover etc.

colin, let us know about that la vermontoise. First time I had it I really loved it, ranked it very highly. Second time it seemed off base. Interesting that it's made with spelt.
I split the bottle with family after the first meal.

I enjoyed it, but wasn't totally blown away. Not sure if it's the spelt or what, it was pretty "grainy", for lack of a better word. And the hops used were pretty earthy/grassy. It all added up to be fairly bitter.

Probably would have been better with food tbh.

Wasn't going to wait in line, but was in WF anyway (outside Philly) and saw a line of 4 people. I waited 30 mins, then they pulled the bait and switch of saying BCBCS is going to raffle on Sunday instead of the dozen people in line. Otherwise, it was 1pp regular BCBS and 1pp BA Ten Fidy. Bought the BA Ten Fidy and a bottle of Toolbox Briar.

Not even mad considering I didn't expect anything this morning, but people were understandably pissed.

I lied. Stopped in at my main packy, they had sold out. Old HS buddy of mine manages a lower key store up the road and they usually get some. They had a case of coffee but it was all spoken for. Didn't know you could even preorder it. Next year I guess.

Damn, that sucks on the preorders.

I'm still relying on reg BCBS being a shelfie in NYC.

I did get one of the reg. Will probably save it for xmas.

Was able to grab these this morning. Pretty sure I could go buy a whole case from my liquor store tomorrow. Contemplating.

Bcs fans,

9am start at city beer store in SF. People line up hours before. This year they had 2016 regular, coffee, and barleywine plus 2015 regal rye and rare.

I was hanging out with family and didn't make it to the store until 1230. They still had regular and barleywine left, up to 6 and 3 of each. I got the full 6 regular but just one barleywine. Guy said they sold out of coffee around 1130. Would have gone earlier if I thought it would last that long, but not too disappointed since I wasn't blown away by the 2016 coffee I tasted on Wednesday. Stopped by Safeway as well, but no luck there this year.

Same up here. Stopped by a bottle shop and got the last 2 they had (limit of 2 per person). Didn't really shop around this morning, I think most other places that had it are out by now.

Won't be back in the city until Monday, wonder if CBS will still have any? 6/person is a pretty high limit. Otherwise I can get more at Liquid Gold's event.

did a little day drinking. Checked out a bar that I figured had BCBS on tap, alas they did not (though they did have KBS), but I ended up going straight hops. They had a really good selection. Only tried two beers though.

Grimm Ales, Pulse Wave, DIPA, 8ish%: Bit different than I remember. I heard they changed the recipe. Not super hazy, fairly standard west coast DIPA imo, with maybe a bit of candied sweetness. Smells and initial taste is great, but gets a little overly sweet for my taste.

Wormtown Be Hoppiest Triple IPA, 10.7%: ended up getting 2 12oz pours of this it was that good. Wow. Actually reminded me a fair bit of TH's Very Hazy, though not quite as aromatic and 2% more alcohol. Still, though. Juicy, lots of tropical notes and some citrus, solid malt balance, tad spicy, and bitter enough to not let the sweetness take over. No alcohol to speak of, and no overly sugary malt sweetness. Certainly not what I was expecting for a 10% beer. I was blown away by this.

Every Grimm ipa I've had has that sweet/metallic flavor, gross.

Went to central binnys for black Friday. Showed up at 715, was 818th in line. My friend who showed at 420am was around 330th. Store opened at 9, and I was through the line at about 1115. Some very impressive bottles discarded along the path from people line drinking and who had camped out.

Got a full allotment (2 reg 1 of each variant), and 2 bottles of 2012 regular (which is drinking amazing lately btw). They had about 500 bottles of rare available at 1 bottle max, but those were gone probably 100 people before I got to the front.

Given the size of their vintage release, I was hoping somehow I'd be able to snag a bottle of 2014 proprietors, which is probably my favorite beer ever. That was long gone by the time my friend got to the front. Sad.

On the way home I hit a foremost liquors, and got 2 more reg and 2 more barleywine (which I'm not partial to, but a friend enjoys), at a 20% markup or so. Finally, hit my nbhd jewel and they still had about 4 cases when I got there, so grabbed 4 more regular. Jewel actually had a decent beer aisle, including the ba dragons milk in 4 packs and bombers. Maybe that's less rare than I'm thinking though? (I'm not super fan od that one regardless, drank way too boozy for me.)

Overall, it was fun. Met some nice people in line. Cold. Probably not worth it at all except when they have these big vintage release type things, and then one should show up even earlier I guess. Otherwise, same or better allotment at a lot of grocery stores, with less pain in the ass.

Wondering if secondary market pricing on rare might dump a little bit since a lot more got released? I guess binnys had some rare at every location, and seeing it on lists for lots of events. Maybe it loses some grail status?

Also, drank some infected 2015 a couple days ago. Was still very good, until the finish, which was kind of nasty. But nasty like tart, instead of the expected chocolate and smooth. So personally not with pouring out.

I opened 2 infected bottles last night. First one was worse and a drain pour. 2nd was much better and had the good chocolate flavor but just the slight tart finish like cit experienced. Have 2 more left that I'll try today probably.

Haha small world. I picked it up at the Downtown Crown Liquors. They had about a dozen left yesterday.

Nice. I've not actually got hold of a bottle since #3. Both that and #2 were top-notch though.

Don't think I'll be buying a bottle for a little while either - combination of no free time from work and the wife having just presented me with some ridiculously large craft beer advent calendar. Not hugely high expectations but there's a suggestion it'll have Magic Rock and a few other decent UK breweries as well as Brooklyn, Flying Dog, etc.

Well, looks like the original post got deleted, so my comment made no sense. Anyway, there was a now-deleted post that responded to/quoted this post from early 2007:

It did get a little better after I let it sit for awhile, but even after 2 hours or so, I still found it undrinkable. Huge disappointment because I paid almost $20 for a 4-pack. I don't know if this is widely available outside of Chicago.

Goose Island Bourbon County

Beer Advocate thread

I also had a Young's Double Chocolate Stout which was pretty good - hard to say whether it was more coffee or chocolate.

In IPA news, I only recently tried a Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. It may be my favorite beer I've ever had and I'm disappointed that it took me so long to try.
And that was a blast from the past - FatOtt was my old account. So it was pretty funny reading about how much I hated Bourbon County Stout the first time I tried it, considering how much I like it now. (Also, how cute that I was troubled by the super-high price of $20/4-pack.)

Fast forward to 2016 - My own Black Friday experience was that I was in Georgia for Thanksgiving, visiting family. I stopped by the local beer store on Wednesday to pick up a 6-pack for the holiday and it turned out they were having a BF event - featuring regular BCBS, BC Barleywine, and a cellar sale with a bunch of other stuff. I told my wife half-joking/half-seriously that I wanted to go and it kind of gained steam over the next day and a half.

Friday morning comes along and we (my brother-in-law, my future brother-in-law, and me) decide to do it. We get there about 10:30 (10:00 opening) and I get ticket number 89. After waiting in line a bit (they were letting 3 people in at a time, and it was slooooow), we heard that they were already out of all bourbon county stuff. (First people lined up at 6 am.) We stayed in line anyway to see what they had. The cellar sale turned out to be decent bottles, but ones that are generally available on shelves (e.g., barrel-aged rasputin). We ended up buying:

Prairie Birthday Bomb
Wicked Weed Dark Age
Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout
Creature Comforts Tropicalia IPA
Scofflaw Brewing Basement IPA

We opened all of them that afternoon. (Note, the two other guys are not into beer at all, and were completely befuddled by the notion of lining up to buy beer. We were all amused by the irritated looking girlfriend/spouses that we saw in line, one of whom was taking care of an infant.)

I've had Sunday Morning Stout before and, as always, enjoyed it. Not as good as beers like KBS or Big Bad Baptist, but definitely worth drinking. Other two guys didn't like this at all.

Birthday Bomb was definitely the favorite of the 3 stouts. I had never had this before, and I was apprehensive about the chili peppers. But they were pretty subdued and I really enjoyed it. Other guys voted this one as their favorite as well.

Dark Age was whatever. Bourbon was really strong. Other guys voted this 2nd place, above Sunday Morning Stout. (To be clear, they didn't really enjoy any of these.)

Tropicalia was good, Basement IPA was fine and seems to be incredibly overrated on BA right now.

This is still gross. Chai flavor just dominating still, a year after bottling.
