i think i've had that clown shoes, and concur. I've had some really tasty stouts from them. They have some hoppy stuff that's hit or miss, and it's hard to track frenshness with them.
el d,
I've had that grimm super going. It was pretty awesome. They do that style well. Can't tell what the other is.. new label for Telekinesis? I've had that too but it's been a while.
mullen,
I might be in NY in a few weeks to see the descendents. Any chance you can hook me up with a hoppy Grimm offering and maybe some other half? Mainly want to try Grimm's new IPA, Splish. I'd be able to supply some trill, night shift, and maybe tree house.
all,
Doing a side by side of Night Shift Awake (coffee porter) and TH's ever so pretentiously titled All That Is and All That Will Ever Be (srsly wtf) (chocolate coffee milk stout) while NFL'ing. On first impression I thought ATIAATWEB was pretty comparable to Awake. Let's find out. They clock in at similar ABVs, with awake being 6.7% and ATIAATWEB being 6.5%.
Looks about the same.
Nose is similar, but awake has a bit more of an overly roasted coffee scent to it, whereas the sweet milk chocolate and milky sweetness comes through on the TH. Coffee still pretty present on the TH.
Taste follows suit. Awake has a bit more coffee, and it's bitterer, maybe overly roasted, whereas ATIAATWEB is almost overwhelmingly chocolate, with the coffee being pretty subtle. It's quite sweet.
Feel is where TH sets itself apart a bit, as expected. Very creamy and full. Awake isn't thin by any means, just not quite as smooth.
Overall, meh, depends what you're in the mood for. I guess ATIAATWEB is an objectively better beer, but the sweetness might do some people in. I'd prefer a 10-12oz poor of this, rather than a 16oz. Awake is a bit more quaffable since it's not crazy sweet. Awake I can also get pretty much any day of the week.
Now I need a nap.
