My only real life Beatles encounter one could modestly say was extremely insignificant. But it was an interesting day for me. I was hosting my wife and daughters for an evening of Santana at the Hard Rock Casino, Las Vegas. Premium six row centre stage seats for those spoilt gals.

But I wasn't going to get completely taken so dinner was the $7.99 deal at the little diner at the Hard Rock. Off menu now. Request it. Or maybe not. The steak is tough and the vegetables are beans. But you do get a small tossed salad.

Anyhow, moving on. I had to exit for a leak. I turned the corner out of the diner towards the loo, and bang, I accidently ran straight into the legendary Clive Davis. Older dude by now. I felt horrible yet elated at the same time, because it was a hard hit, but it was ****ing Clive Davis! It was brief. The body guards moved in very quickly and that was that.

Went back, grabbed the fam and it was off to the show.

As well as the incomparable Santana and the band that night, a huge highlight for me was when they introduced Clive's guest Olivia Harrison.

Some good songs, but I end up turning the dial when they come on the radio for some reason. I like Zeppelin more.

I've posted this in a couple of other threads on the site, but I did see them in 1966--"saw" much more than "heard." Also was treated to the KKK picketing their concert. It was far more of an "experience" than a listening experience. Still a fan after all these years but more partial to their earlier music.

I was raised on The Beatles. So naturally I either love or hate their songs. Some stuff is either too weird or too pop for me, while most of the real rock n roll stuff hits me right at home.

day in the life; sgt peppers lonely hearts club; good morning; get back;

I've been known to butcher some Beatles' tunes on the piano. I found a progression of songs that allow me to end one song with the first note of the next. the best example of this is the transition from In My Life to Oh Darlin.

See if you can catch it:

The Beatles are the band musicians listen to.

I'm with Lemmy. Lemmy said he picked up a guitar after seeing the Beatles perform at the Cavern when he was 16 - “They had attitude: Onstage, they were like a four-headed monster.”

and...

"The Beatles had an influence on everybody. They changed the way you looked at things."

My favourite song, ever, is a Beatles song. The Golden Slumbers-Carry That Weight-The End trilogy from Abbery Road.

But damn, Blackbird is so beautiful too

And so, so many other great songs. "I saw her standing there" for the sheer energy, "Ticket To Ride" for that beautiful simple drumbeat that underlies it, "Help" for being the greatest pop song ever, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" for its lamenting beauty....

I could go on and on and on.

The Beatles are the soundtrack of my youth. Plus they were extraordinarily talented. No one will ever surpass them in my mind. Times have changed and I don't believe it is possible to ever have another phenomenon like the Beatles occur again. Like Bach, Beethoven, Mozart etc. their music will live forever.

Thank you for bumping this amazing thread,

for that I will post up one of the greatest songs ever. If you're doing it right, you will close your eyes, breath every 10 seconds, bring yourself to perfect relaxation and extend your life.

A group version:

^^^That's my favorite song. My next two are probably Strawberry Fields Forever and one of their two 1996 releases, Real Love.

Introducing my kids to The Beatles years ago (they are 10 and 12 now) and they, in turn, loving the band, is arguably my proudest parenting job. Beatles Rock Band was their go-to game on Wii. We went to a Beatles tribute band concert a couple years ago and I think my kids were the youngest people there. My son was mimicking Ringo the entire time.

I recently collected a few Beatles vinyls and am going to frame them in a nice grouping in our family room. Sgt. Pepper, Rubber Soul, Yellow Submarine, Help! movie soundtrack, Abbey Road, and Magical Mystery Tour. I'd like to swap out Help! for Revolver (though the movie soundtrack album actually looks nice), but I just haven't gotten my hands on a decent copy of Revolver for cheap. Didn't want to spend too much money.

Speaking of Revolution.

My very first Beatles experience was in London, England in 1968. I was in grade two and my neighbour in Golders Green where I lived for two years before I came back to Canada knocked on my door. This little Jewish kid who lived down the road from me toward Hamstead Heath dragged me back to his upstairs room and put this little black thing with a hole in the middle of it on a record player and introduced me to Hey Jude.

If you've never heard Sir Paul play it live, I would highly recommend that you remedy that ASAP. Truly an amazing thing, you just have to be there. Cannot wait to see him again.
