Hobby, is your avatar supposed to be January Jones??? Why does she look so bad in that photo???

Yes, that's January Jones. It's a still from Mad Men, the best show ever created in the history of television.

She's shooting pigeons, Dominic. One does not dress up in their Sunday finest for that activity.

(You soooo need to watch this show in order to get what I just said...)

WHAT THE HELL IS STARBUCK?

Even Leoban seemed kind of scared of her...

OK, I actually lost sleep last night worrying about how I was going to get caught up on BG and understand what is going on. I get up early this morning because I can't sleep worrying about this. I turn on the TV and am looking for something to watch and flick to the Sci-Fi channel and what do I see? A 30 minute "documentary" called the 10 things oyu need to know about Battlestar Gallactica and it is just starting!!!!

I watched and it explains everything!!! Well, at least as far as I can tell.

I am now watching the premier show from last night. Damn good stuff!!!!

They're auctioning off a lot of very cool stuff from the show over the next few days. It's already started. Right now they're in concept art. Next will be costumes, a few full sized ships, then the props. I'm going to try to get at least one damn thing out of that last group.

Be warned if you're interested in bidding that even the smaller items aren't going cheap.

It's streaming live here:

http://www.auctionnetwork.com

Notable costumes are Adama's uniforms (lots 103 & 104), Baltar's miniseries suit (143), and Six's red dress (260).

Starting with the full size Raptor (346) everything gets more interesting for me.

The only huge things from this episode that I want answered are:

What is StarBuck? My theory - a cylon - but an 'Earth' Cylon - literally from the planet Earth. Not a "Final 5" that were from the Colonies. Only explanation as to how she was dead then alive.

How did #5 know they will be reborn, and be together again? Is she like the Oracle in the Matrix and has been there through every interation?

Agreed with nuclear500. What's left to be revealed is how the final 5 were reborn 2 thousand years later and why? I think Ellen is a misdirection because they revealed it so easily.

Dee dying was shocking, holly crap!!!!! ! ! ! The build up was amazing and caught me by surprise. I thought that at first Gaeda might grab her ass or they might hook up the way she was looking at him and then BLAM, *&^*&^&*^.

My only addition is that the jacks must be a small nod to the greatness of Firefly.

Good post on 'Sometimes a Great Notion' episode on the Chicago Tribune TV blog.

Spoiler:
It's Ellen, just Ellen

I'm assuming we're forsaking the need for spoilers IIT if the episode being discussed has been aired. Let's keep spoiler tags in if you find out something about future episodes though, okay?

Anyway....

Okay, so I've finally seen season 4 episode 1 days after the rest of you, and my thoughts:

Good episode, lots of crazy going on, but I never felt it was floundering or being false (in the way Heroes and some other shows have been when there's a dramatic change in plotline). However, I sincerely hope they explain all this crazy by the end, or it's just going to be TV blowing smoke up people's asses.

There's been discussion about how Ellen is the final Fifth cylon, given the closing scene, but I don't know. The makers have confirmed that, it appears, but there's evidence of at least 2 other players being cylons, and behaviour/interactions from others that hint they might be cylons.

The 2 other players I refer to:

Starbuck - Well, she came back from the dead for one, and she found a former dead self on Earth, c'mon she must be a cylon or something other than plain human, at least. Also the other cylons are remembering previous lives on Earth, and I sincerely doubt if she'd just stumble across herself on the entire planet by accident - so let's assume she has a buried memory giving her a compulsion to go to that spot.

Adama - In Razor, as a young man, he entered a resurrection chamber and seemed to have flashback memories of some previous time - like the cylons are having.

The other evidences - Roslin was cured of cancer by a transfusion from the hybrid. WTF. Doesn't that suggest something... And Dee killing herself after finding something on Earth and being traumatised....a past memory perhaps?

I think Ellen being the Fifth is a major dramatic letdown frankly, as she was always an incidental character in the story. Adama or Roslin would make a MUCH greater impact. I'm sure the writers are well aware of this.

Frankly at this point, I'm starting to think everyone important is, in fact, a cylon. And I'm suspecting that, somehow, Starbuck is a harbinger of doom for cylonkind, not humanity.

Finally, I'm seeing this series end a bit like the Matrix. The repeating pattern being broken, and one person breaking the cycle. Starbuck, I'm guessing.

I also think the makers of this show are prepared for the cycle to end by everyone - human and cylon - dying.

One more thing. There were some terrific scenes in this episode, but the standout for the entire series was the whole scene of Starbuck preparing a funeral pyre in the dark and burning herself.

I have this feeling as well. I was also starting to think that in many ways humans were going to be "the bad guys" in this story during a few of the shows last season. I missed a lot so maybe that is just a given or something but I thought that was a bit different

I agree. For me, part of the fun of watching stuff like this is putting oyurseld in a characters shoes and I just can't really imagine the emotional ride it would be to find yourself dead and then do this for yourself!!

Wow, this second episode was incredibly dark....things in the fleet are going to hell, alliances are splitting apart, mutiny and revolution are eminent....

this is not going to end well.

It's not supposed to end well Dominic, the creators have already stated that this season will be very dark and outcomes not so rosy and nice. Pretty awesome imo.

The build up is ridiculous, the chaos that's about to ensue will be insanity.

Btw, why haven't they shown the cylon fleet at all in the latest season? Looks like they are using old shots of the fleet before the cylons were there.

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure we've seen the last of Diana/3 - she was left on Earth per her request.

I think the Hot Dog/Galen sub plot was there solely to make both the Six/Tigh baby and baby Hera more meaningful. They realized they had one two many human/cylon babies so they made Cally a whore and her baby completely human.

It would not surprise me if the Zarek/Gaeta rebellion succeeds and they take out the remaining Cylon baseship.

The boy and I finally caught up, (we rewatched the last three episodes before seeing the new ones.)

The whole "Hera is so special to our future" and Cally's baby also being half cylon never made sense to me, so I'm glad they straightened it out.

I think Dee's suicide as an example of their desperation after losing the one hope they were all hanging on to, worked well.

Ellen the 5th cylon? I don't think anyone had that pegged. Did she download somewhere when Sol killed her?

After watching 5 hours this weekend, I have to say there's really not an aspect of this show that doesn't impress me, from the acting to the storyline.

Imo starbuck is some sort of human clone or something. If the cylons know how to duplicate themsevles its reasonable they'd know how to duplicate humans in a similar fashion. The black doctor cyclon probably did it when she they had her in the hospital on earth and did all those weird tests on her. Think that would explain her getting a brand new duplicate fighter if she was some sort of clone plant, would also explain how she might doom everyone else.

I am soooo glad that I watched the webisodes with Gaeta otherwise I would have felt that his present actions were completely out of character. But they make some sense now...

Spoiler:
Now, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but the secret that Balthar alluded to when he was talking to Gaeta was about the lists of people that he gave the 8 back on New Caprica, right? The lists where Gaeta thought she was saving the people who the Cylons held in custody but was the 8 was really killing them instead and she told Gaeta that he was just lying to himself when he believed that she was saving them and that he really knew all along that they were being killed?

I think I'm gonna have to agree with Dominic now...I Starbuck. She's such a badass.

Dominic, I love your avatar so much, I always pause and watch it 2-3 times, never change it!

Great great episode, I think it's one of the best of the series. A friend of mine told me that he thought adama will die next episode, the more I think about it the more it makes sense. I think lee is ready to take the reigns and lead the counter rebellion. Ty is so freaking bad ass now that he is a cylon and a staunch human lover lol. Oh and that fact that he knocked up 6 gets definite props from my end.

THE ADMIRAL CAN'T DIE! HE'S THE FIFTH CYLON (ACCORDING TO ME).

So in terms of their revolution, what exactly do people think that Gaeta and Zarek are planning? Are they just going to take over everything, i.e. the military (Galactica) and the civilian population (the Quorum) and basically institute their own dictatorship? Cuz that seems just a wee bit hypocritical to me...
