Battlestar Galactica - Final Season Battlestar Galactica - Final Season

Need your help, guys. I'm watching these seasons online and I can't find the first part of this episode so I"m not quite sure I understand all that is going on.

Season 4 Episode 8 Sine Qua None

In the second part, Tigh and Adama get in a fight cuz we find out that Number 6 is knocked up. Lee is sworn in as president because Laura Roslyn is gone (where I don't know?) Two pilots are missing. Athena was placed in the brig. And at the end Adama decides to stay and wait alone in a raptor for Roslyn to return.

So what happened in the first part? Why is Laura Roslyn gone? Who was kidnapped? What happened to the missing pilots? Why is Athena in the brig? Anything else interesting happen?

Laura was in the Hub basestar when the Hub jumped....she is missing.

detailed episode recap

this should answer all your questions...also, try viewing the episode again...maybe you missed the previous one and don't know it? It's called "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner."

Maybe I fell asleep at some point but I saw the one where Starbuck takes over the Cylon ship and talks to the Cylon...and then they almost get shot down by Galactica....hmmm....

OK - I can't sleep again so I've got some more crackpot theories.

"Cylons" and man are both originally from Earth. The beacons that were left behind to guide both groups back to Earth suggests that it is their true origins (i.e., the music that the final 5 hear, the eye of Jupiter, etc.) I think that it is supposed to be a time in the future after Earth has been destroyed through some kind of war - maybe it was a human-Cylon war.

I'm still convinced that Admiral Adama is the final Cylon (the one D'Anna was talking to when she was in the temple...why she hasn't outted him though is curious...

Okay, Im now caught up with the rest of you. Seen all of season 4. It was nice to see some dogfighting - the CGI in this show is spectacular, and I love BSG dogfights. They are way more realistic than star wars etc, I'm glad they stick to proper bullets and missiles.

I still think I know the final cylon, but it'll keep.

Hey, I'm bringing this thread alive again because I just finished watching season 4.

My take on the final cylon:

Here's my case for Starbuck:

One clue is the whole sequence when Starbuck comes back and the fleet is jumping off course from Earth and she's going absolutely nuts. Throughout these episodes and on the Demetrius she kept on alluding to the fact that her understanding of where earth was was strongest when the fleet was back at the nebula..... Precisely the geographical point when Tigh, Tory, Sam and Galen heard the music and eventually found each other.

Remember that conversation that Starbuck had with Admiral Adama in the first ep of season 4 when Adama asked her to tell him how does she knows the way to earth? She told him 'It's a feeling, an intuition". How did the cylons find their way to that room that revealed their identities in the first place? How did they find their way to the hangar and to Starbucks' ship in the final ep? Well I'm pretty sure they followed their feelings and intuition without understanding why they knew that info, just like Starbuck.

My final point takes place in the final episode where all 4 cylons heard the music once again which lead 3 of them to the hangar and to Starbucks' vyper. It's my belief that it took the 5th cylon to find out 'what's changed' on the vyper which evidently became the final key to earth.

It would explain why Leoben and Sam Anders are so attracted and devoted to her. Because of her special destiny, and perhaps because of their subconscious feeling that this is the 5th cylon.

As a footnote, I found this webpage where this dude describes the 12 cylons as part of 12 archetypes representative of the basic human needs, aspirations, and motivations. Here's what he came up with how starbuck fit into the 12:

THE EXPLORER/SEEKER/WANDERER= Starbuck (if she is the other cylon)

The Explorer/Seeker/Wanderer leaves the known to discover and explore the unknown. This inner rugged individual braves loneliness and isolation to seek out new paths. Often oppositional, this iconoclastic archetype helps us discover our uniqueness, our perspectives, and our callings.

interesting analysis Mephisto! I don't see the Final Cylon being anyone but Starbuk or Roslyn.

It's Admiral Adama, for my money.

it's certainly possible, but when did they do the "switch?" He can't have always been a cylon, since he has children. Plus, it's just too....obvious.

If you guys want to read UBER and I mean U.B.E.R scary discussion (in a bad way) on the final cylon go check out the scifi network forums. These guys that inhabit that realm clearly have no lives and think about BSG at least 10 hours a day while on break from WoW sessions.

Btw, word on the street that the final cylon is Tom Zerek (sp?). Apparently there have been some interviews by the creators who have hinted that the final cylon was not pictured in the season 4 promo shot. Is it misinformation? Maybe. My take is that it would be cool if it were him because I don't think the creators have given his character enough air time as of yet.

I've been watching the first half of Season 4 again on Universal HD...and I had to share how astounded I am at how incredibly great this show is.

I had just seen the pilot of the new Sci-Fi Channel show called Sanctuary, and in comparison, the new show - like almost every show on television at the moment - pales in comparison. Sanctuary is mildly amusing but obviously written by people who's idea of a fantastic and meaningful mythology is as no deeper than the juvenile and pedestrian writing.

Comparing it to Battlestar Galactica is like comparing the new "spooky" show, Fringe to The X-Files. In other words, there's no comparison at all.

The episode of BSG I saw today was "Faith," and on second viewing it completely blew me away - why I'm surprised, I have no idea, because every episode blows me away. The sheer brilliance of the writing and the performances, and how incredibly complex the world that has been created boggles the mind. Loyalty, religion, death, love, bravery...all human emotions are given new and surprising twists and story-lines.

I truly believe Battlestar Galactica to be on par with, or even better than Band of Brothers, The Sopranos...hell, anything that has ever been aired on television before.

It's TV at its finest. And if you haven't been watching, you're really missing out.

Just rewatched "Hub" on HDNet...I think it's possible that this episode is one of the greatest shows in episodic television history. The religion, philosophy and drama at play in this one is simply astonishing.

And the very simple yet profound ending is as memorable as anything I've ever seen:

Laura: I missed you.
Adama: I missed you, too.
Laura: ...I love you.
Adama: It's about time.

Personally, I think it starts out fantastic and just keeps getting better. What had you disappointed in season 1??

i'm only halfway through the first season, but i find the acting a little over the top in a lot of spots, likewise with certain subplots. mostly, i just don't care about the characters. there's simply nothing that makes me want to keep going, other than all my friends telling me it's an awesome series.

hmmmmm...i don't know what to tell you. Although, I did start watching the first season and felt it was "cold," somehow, and gave up on it when it first aired. It was only this past year I gave it another chance and I'm glad I did.

If you didn't like the first season then I don't think you'll like the entire series. Season 1 had some very strong episodes.
