I could have posted this in "Venues and Communities" but since it's not 100% poker I thought it would be more appropriate here.

I've heard, fairly consistently, that Atlantic City is trash compared to Las Vegas. Is there any truth to that? Is AC just essentially worthless as a tourist destination for someone who likes gambling, shows, food, scenery, comfortable hotels, shopping etc (essentially all the same stuff you get in Vegas)? Surely the fact that it's along the coast gives it SOME value, no?

Is there anything family-oriented around AC that non-gamblers would enjoy, or kids?

Atlantic City is awful. I'd rather go to Cambodia in 1971.

AC was fun for a couple of days to experience but:

-Better casinos/shows/gambling in Vegas
-Better boardwalk at Coney Island
-Better coastline pretty much anywhere else

From the couple of hours I had to experience before settling in to a poker table at Harrah's, I'd say I agree with xander and disagree with dominic.

AC is definitely worth a one- or two-day visit IMHO.

I’ve never been to Vegas but I love AC. Sure it’s grimey and you should be careful walking around at night especially with money or alone. I think AC has great food, shopping, and entertainment.

I say visit borgata if you are higher income as that seems like where most people wth money go.

If going in the summer Ocean City is way better for kids. Maybe a 20-25 minute drive south.

The main problem with AC is that it is full of people from NJ, NY, and PA.

Live 15 minutes from AC, the city doesn't offer much as all. The casinos are cookie cutter boring with a few good games a day. Try borgata.

The outside area is as sketchy of a place as I could imagine. This was 20 years ago, so perhaps things have changed.

Buildings with fires just burning. Loitering. It appeared to be total lawlessness.
