The name of the town put me on tilt! But that's my problem.

Isn't there a brewery there that makes pretty bad beer?

The original Narragansett Beer used to be made in Cranston, RI. Then resurrected in Rochester, NY. Quint drinks 'Gansett in Jaws.

That's great, John! Narragansett is gorgeous.

Phat Mack, most of what I've tried is pretty solid. Not a fan of the shandy, but that's just personal preference. Narragansett Beer

It is, Ray. Most of my old friends live here, too.

surprised that beer is still around. they must have made it boutique in some way for the younger crowed to get into it. back when it was just another cheap beer with little taste like horelacker, shafferr, bock, and a host of others that were so called local.

spellings off on a few of those. and the last sentence isnt quite how john would write.

I had no idea 'Gansett had returned to RI, making all those silly beers. My grandfather used to drive me to the liquor store, so I could run in to pick up beer for him. I was around 11 at the time. I'm not sure if you could send an eleven year old in to buy beer these days.

im sure you cannot.

Only in states that have drive thru liquor stores.
Dad used to send me in to buy cigars.

Texas still has many drive through liquor barns. You used to be able to order a Martini to go also (but not for the driver); don't know if that has changed. I love Texas.

Now that I have sobered up, I can upgrade/explain a post, with pic, that I made above. Now everything makes perfect sense.

To sell a mixed drink, you need a mixed drink license. If you have a mixed drink license, then alcohol can't leave the premises. Only way around it would have been to operate as a private club and have a private club license. MADD killed all the open containers while driving in Texas, and with a good deal of justification.

On a related note, my mother had no problem sending elementary-school me up to the store for a loaf of bread, a pound of ground chuck and a carton of Chesterfields.

Good God, Phat! Are you becoming a sobbing moralist in your dotage?

I certainly hope not. I don't think I'd have much talent for it.
