Sick value remains.

Shawshank was definitely one of the ones I was contemplating before I finally decided on Silence of the Lambs.

yeah, there are at least 15 movies that can all be in consideration for top 5 depending on tastes...so getting 15th/16th pick as the last player in the draft can mean 2 top-tier movies that could reasonably have both gone top 5 or so

Shawshank is a reach this high.

i don't buy that it's a reach when:

1. hard to argue taking favorite movie is a reach
2. #4 took it, #3 considered taking it
3. many people have it as their top movie and it's #1 on imdb
4. no way it'll last past first round and back to me in 2nd round

you personally may not think it's a top 10 movie of the 90s, but I do and many others agree; enough to reasonably expect it to go top 5 in most "90s drafts"

It's a great movie but an average, at best, film.

This. So many truly great films in the 90s over Shawshank...but it's a personal pick, I get it.

The thread title says best movie draft Some of the picks I expect to make in later rounds will make "film buffs" shudder. Luckily I am a movie fan.

That's what makes a draft fun. You may pick Iginla while I would pick Ovechkin.

sorry for the obscure hockey reference. Sometimes my Canadian side sneaks out.

I was being tongue-in-cheek with the chart, but there is a long tradition in criticism of differentiating movies from films. It is a useful distinction.

Just like it is useful to differentiate the posters we all hung on our wall in college of half naked women from Ansel Adams photography, it is useful to differentiate popcorm movies from Kurosawa's Ikuru.

I am entirely aware that there exist critics who use them for reasons you state. Just saying they should stop, immediately.
