I just rewatched that a couple of weeks ago for the first time since it came out as I had totally forgotten pretty much everything about it. It was good and well done and all but I forgot almost everything about it because it really is forgettable. It's a solid movie but for me not special enough for a draft.

Another Arnie sci-fi for me.

Total Recall

Logline: When a man goes for virtual vacation memories of the planet Mars, an unexpected and harrowing series of events forces him to go to the planet for real, or does he?

An inventive sci-fi with a twisty plot, it's a rollercoaster ride all the way.

Yeah, I'm surprised it doesn't get more love and that it wasn't picked already. I would have picked it earlier except I already had T2.

well lets finish this one first imo... seem to stalling a bit, here are my writeups for last two picks:

Round 11:

The Crying Game

I would not have been shocked had this movie gone in the first two rounds and i'm kindof shocked it's going this late. The Crying Game is a multi-level hostage/romance/sexually laced political thriller. The main character Fergus is an IRA agent who is put in charge of looking after a hostage the IRA have taken to counter the British taking one of their own men hostage. The man, Jody, played by Forest Whitaker in one of his best performances, who is a soilder himself for the British, becomes friends with Fergus while he is holding him hostage. They tell each other stories about their lives, including Jody telling Fergus about his lover, Dil. I won't reveal much more of the story, but circumstances lead to Fergus eventually becoming friends with Dil after leaving the IRA, a ****storm ensues.

This movie is well known for it's sexual "twist" and quite frankly, while i don't think Neil Jordan meant it to be as surprising as some people think, it's still well handled within the film, so that when Fergus is shown the truth, we are right there along with him for the ride, even though we suspected the truth beforehand. Because of the content, the movie could have easily gone into campy, ridiculous territory quick, but the main characters reaction to revelation and the continuing threat of the crazy IRA characters seeking revenge on Fergus, mainly Miranda Richardson's crazy Jude, keep the story running and full of intrigue. I like most of Neil Jordan's films, this one is easily one of his best.

Round 12:

Kingpin

"my name's not boy, it's Roy"

Bowling. Roy Munson. Ernie McCraken. Roy's hand gets cut off. Ishmael. You must have a wide foot, you got both of them. Tournament. McCraken wins.

Seriously this movie is all kinds of awesome, I heart Bill Murray and Woody Harrelson, i think it's fitting i started off with one of Murray's best comedic performances and ended with another.

Wave's List:
1. Rushmore
2. The Thin Red Line
3. Babe
4. The Ice Storm
5. Run Lola Run
6. When We Were Kings
7. A Perfect World
8. Carlito's Way
9. Richard III
10. Affliction
11. The Crying Game
12. Kingpin

This. The Crying Game was quite a sensation in the states when it came out. I thought it was good, but I went in knowing nothing but that there was a big "twist" that caught everyone off guard. When the movie was over i didn't really get what the "twist" was (I thought it was that the Girlfriend knew that the IRA guy killed her boyfriend the whole time). I wonder what impact the film would have if it was released now.

Lone Star was my favorite 90s Movie; Sayles's masterpiece. Came close to being an unforgivable omission here.

some interesting facts abouts some of my movies:

the original script for the thin red line was 300 pages and the first cut was 5 hours long, billy bob thorton and viggo mortenson both had parts in the movie that did not make the final cut of the film...

the original name for the crying game was the soldiers wife but neil jordan changed it based on a recommendation from stanley kubrick because he thought audiences would think the movie was about war and would be disappointed upon viewing

5 hours woulda been cruel and unusual punishment. When I saw it in the theater there were 12 of us in the audiance (opening day matinee). 8 walked out. I wasn't one of them but I did envy them. I really disliked that movie!
