I would take PF 3rd without having created a board, but I know my top 3 without one. I expect my #2 will go very soon.

I expected Pulp Fiction to be number 1 as well though sounds like some drafters wouldn't have chosen it.

I would've bet even money that Pulp Fiction would go at number one.

i would've had a tough time not picking it 1 as well, like has already been said, easily the most influential of the decade, maybe not my favorite film (altho top 10 for sure) of the 90's but most influential and original...

i have a list of 15-20 movies and i'm pretty sure most of them will be safe; just need to pick a couple early on, so they wont get sniped.

Just judging from the last one it seemed to slow over the weekend, so maybe just a 12 hour limit over weekend, six hour during week, and then maybe like 4 hours for the final couple of rounds.

well it also appeared to me to slow down at times, when i observed it and i think that is something that should be avoided imo; a strict time limit would keep things moving.

12 hour is way too long imo and 6 hours for the first couple of rounds seems more than reasonable imo. seems like people should be able to check the internet at least 2-3 times a day. and the thing is, it doesn't even matter that someone gets skipped, cause at worst, 2-3 people pick in front of you, and u can always make ur pick when u get back, or pm it to someone beforehand, if u dont wanna get sniped.

Round #1 Pick #2

Fargo (Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, 1996)

Jerry looks to get out from under the oppression of his demeaning father-in-law, he hires a few crooks and plans to kidnap his wife and hold her for ransom. As with any Cohen brothers movie, things go to ****, and the bodies pile up. Pregnant police chief Marge is soon on the case, hilarity and action ensue.

Fargo weaves a story that jumps masterfully between comedy and suspense.

What stands out in my mind about Fargo are how the characters and setting feel realistic, yet the movie remains extremely cinematic. Fargo gives off a only possible on the screen vibe, but, the characters are so well layered and the setting so developed that the movie still feels grounded in reality. But, with the Cohens there is just enough of the absurd to keep everything fresh and create an outrageous story.

I agree.

Pulp Fiction is one of those movies, I wish I had the opportunity to see in the theaters. That experience must have been a ton of fun.

Fargo was definitely on my list but I sure didn't think it would be a first rounder let alone second overall. I did expect Pulp Fiction to go off one or two. I have a tough descision with about 5 I am trying to decide on here. I will have it up shortly but obviously there are still lots of terrific choices available.

Looking at your reviews in the "what have you seen lately" thread and some of your other posts....

I am really interested to see some of your picks, I feel I am going to discover a few new movies based upon your drafting.

One of the reasons I love these type of threads.

Really? I would have been amazed if Fargo did not go in the top 5.

Round 1 pick #3

The Silence of the Lambs Jonathan Demme 1991

This was a tough decision. But I decided my stratetgy would be the movies that mean most to me and that I enjoy watching the most. That said this was still a very close call between a few others.

Silence is almost perfect to me. Great cast, great story and just terrific entertainment value. The story of a young FBI agent tracking a serial killer and recruiting the assistance of an incarcerated serial killer. The action and suspense are memorable.

A big part of the reason I chose this movie was the way I felt as I first watched it. Hopkins performance and escape scene were iconic. But the scene that really got me was in Buffalo Bills basement with the lights out and he was stalking Clarice with his night vision setup. I remember my body being completely tense clutching tightly to the armrests of my chair. This movie got me totally immersed into that situation and probablly a higher level of immersion than any other movie ever and that is why it is my first pick. Even subsequent viewings have held my interest totally and completely.

Fargo was in my top 3.

I'm sad to see it go, but I'm still getting one of my top 3s and likely would have not chosen Fargo over the other 2 if push came to shove, so I knew I was pretty much not gonna get Fargo.

It's such a great movie; one of my top 10 of all time.

Ok, so Silence was my #2 movie in my top 3 and is in my top 7 of all time. Such an amazing movie and one of the best villains of all time.

luckily for me, that means I still get to choose my #1 movie of all time here, which I'll have up in a second

Round #1 Pick #4

Shawshank Redemption (Frank Darabont 1994)

Based on a novella by Stephen King, Shawshank is the perfect movie. I'm not even usually a fan of prison movies. The story, the characters, the acting, the ending are all superb. And of course it has the GOAT narrator Morgan Freeman.

I would have taken this #1 spot if I could so thrilled to get it at #4. Many people would agree with me, too, as it's #1 rated movie (573,000 votes) on imdb.com top 250 just edging out Godfather (Pulp is #5) as the only 2 movies with 9.2 rating.
