I never liked Mrs Doubtfire, never really like Robin Williams in any comedic role, but can't argue with someone taking a movie they like at this stage.

I'm pretty sure some of my later will get the haters mad too.

bonsaltron, I respect picking the movie you personally want. That's part of the fun.

I'm heading to the gym and then will be heading out to dinner and stuff and don't feel like checking this much, so I'm just going to put my pick in a spoiler. I think Vix is sleeping. Vix, don't click on spoiler until you put your pick in. Doubt you were taking this anyways.

Magnolia and American Beauty were my two least favorite 90s films. All things considered, I am pleased they fell as far as they did (i bet if someone did this draft 10 years ago, they would have been picked in the first round).

My two favorite picks are probably Heavenly Creatures and, especially, Crash - which, along with 2 other unnamed Cronenburg (best 90s director imo) films, makes my 90s top 20.

However, my probable top 90s film hasn't been picked yet.

we need to start getting strict on 4 hour time limits or else this thing will stall out and we're only in the 2nd decade!

Well, I'm to bed soon so am going to skip Vix as well.

I've wanted to take this nearly every round since the second one but didn't want to have two Holocaust movies in my draft. But since no one else seems to want it, I can't resist any more. I'll take:

Life is Beautiful (Robert Benigni) 1997
La vita è bella

Logline: A Jewish man has a wonderful romance with the help of his humour, but must use that same quality to protect his son in a Nazi death camp.

A wonderful movie, it gained a certain notoriety for the way its director accepted an oscar.

It's difficult to make a comedy and place it in a concentration camp but this is what Benigni does here. A romance and a comedy and a tragedy, it's touching funny, heart warming and terribly sad. I loved every minute of it. By the end, I was so engrossed in the movie, I was wondering why there were words written across the screen, forgetting entirely that I didn't know Italian and I was reading them.

Buon giorno, Principessa.

Movies so far
- Braveheart
- Schindlers List
- Jerry Maguire
- It's as Good as it Gets
- Terminator 2
- American Beauty
- Sixth Sense
- Life is Beautiful

Round 8

Beautiful Girls Ted Demme 1996

Continuing with my strategy of picking movies I really like as opposed to those I simply like but have "sick value" I am going with Beautiful Girls.

I really enjoy this flick. Not really much of a plot but more of a slice of life and the interactions of a bunch of friends in a small town as they try and decide where their lives are going. Strong ensemble cast is featured. The main character and theme is Willie (Tim Hutton) who comes home for his High School reunion and he how he reconnects with his old friends and what is going on in their lives. 13 year old Natalie Portman is a standout here as she absolutely steals every scene she is in.

I can think of quite a few movies probably considered "better" but for me they aren't as enjoyable.

The Silence of the Lambs
Glengarry Glen Ross
True Romance
Boyz N the Hood
Tombstone
Waiting For Guffman
Swingers
Beautiful Girls

Round 8
Pick #11 (#116 overall)

The Lion King by Roger Allers and Bob Minkoff (1994)

One of my favorite animated films, The Lion King is fantastic. This movie is easily in the top 10 best family films of all time.

Every one knows the story, since it is one of the most watched movies. The movie has an excellent soundtrack, has great animation (the opening sequence with "The Circle of Life" is fantastic) and it has many memorable scenes (Mufasa's death is unforgettable). The movie also has great comedy with Timon and Pumba.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, I don't know why I didn't pick it earlier.

********************
The Matrix Wackowski brothers (1999)
12 Monkeys Terry Gilliam (1995)
Princess Mononoke Hayao Miyazaki (1997)
Gattaca Andrew Niccol (1997)
Point Break Kathryn Bigelow (1991)
Quiz Show Robert Redford (1994)
Liar Liar Tom Shadyac (1997)
The Lion King Roger Allers and Bob Minkoff (1994)

I love The Cube, I was sure I would get it later. I thought it had a great concept and it was well made. I was also excited about the fact that it had some math in it, although I haven't seen it in 12 years, so I don't know how solid the math was.

I'm really amazed some of these movies are going now instead of the dozens or so truly great ones that are still left...

I love The Lion King. I remember in Sophomore year of H.S. typing class the teacher played this movie over a 2-day period and all the otherwise-"badass" 15 year olds were like glued to it and it was sort of like nobody wanted to mention how much they liked it but I remember looking around the room and all eyes were quietly glued. For some reason I still remember that, and thinking "Damn, this is amazing". lol. An animated film could captivate an entire room full of kids constantly worried about their image.
