Admittedly, I haven't watched it in years and have no idea how it holds up, but nobody can deny when it came out it was a pretty epic leap in moviemaking.

I've seen it recently, holds up very well. The sfx still haven't really been topped. Those dinosaurs look real. Actually I've watched all 3 of them in the last year or so--only first is a true classic ldo. Lost World isn't bad though.

Show me the money

Jerry Maguire - (1996, Cameron Crowe)

This is a great feel good movie. There are great scenes throughout, most notably the show me the money scene, but most scenes with Cuba Golding Jr are gems.

I had no idea JP was considered a good movie. I just thought it was a special effects extravaganza, and I don't care too much for dinosaurs so never bothered watching it.

Round 3, Pick 7 (52)

Spoiler:
Another movie better than Goodfellas

Bad Lieutenant, 1992, Abel Ferrara

NSFW Poster of Harvey Keitel on ripped fuel or some ****:

Spoiler:

Whereas Ben from Leaving Las Vegas is sad, the Bad Lieutenant (he's nameless) is bad. I mean a ****ing badass mother****er (yeah, he deserves two "****s"). In Bad Lieutenant, a nun gets raped in a church with a crusifex, the Bad Lieutenant - an actual lieutenant - steals drug evidence to sell on the street, is a coke addict himself, drinks all the time to counter his high, is running up gambling debts on the NLCS series, and is banging hookers. And that ain't everything. In one scene, he pulls over two young girls, makes one bend over and makes the other simulate a blow job so he can jerk off to the view. This is a sick character study. Harvey Keitel gives an absolutely unbelievable performance; I can't stress that enough. This movie is twisted, but it's also fascinating. It's not just a bad mother****er being a bad mother****er. It's a psychological struggle. The viewer is practically brought into Keitel's mind. It's just an awesome ****ing movie. The co-writer is Zoe Lund, the woman in this picture from the film (she has a small role):

and irl she died at the age of 37 from heart failure from too much blow.

Even the trailer is badass (subtitles because this version is better)(NSFW):

**********************************
Leaving Las Vegas
The Sweet Hereafter
Bad Lieutenant

I think I need a comedy or animation or something to add to this mix, lol.

Great movie. Love it. Nice pick.

Will I ever get to pick when I'm not half sleeping? So far no luck.

Anyhow, I'll take JFK. Oliver Stone's epic paranoid conspiracy masterwork, or iirc as he calls it "counter-history." For such a long picture it moves at a nailbiting, breakneck pace. The courtroom monologue by Costner is just legendary. I never understood the controversy here, I don't think its supposed to be considered factually true. This is mythic stuff. How's the quote from The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance go... "when the legend becomes fact, print the legend"? That's JFK.

Is Herzog's recent Bad Lieutenant related to this one? I have that on my Netflix Queue, I should definitely add the 1992 version, it sounds like a great movie.

from wikipedia:

Abel Ferrara, director of the 1992 film, has been quoted by various media outlets as being very angry about this film (the second one, obv). After the film was first announced, Ferrara was quoted as saying "As far as remakes go, ... I wish these people die in Hell. I hope they're all in the same streetcar, and it blows up."[14] When asked later for his response to Ferrara's statements, Herzog stated that he does not know who Ferrara is, saying "I've never seen a film by him. I have no idea who he is."[14] At a press conference at the Venice Film Festival after the film's premiere, Herzog said of Ferrara, "I would like to meet the man," and "I have a feeling that if we met and talked, over a bottle of whiskey, I should add, I think we could straighten everything out."

Herzogs is a remake and a pretty bad one for that matter.
Save the time and watch the original. It`s way better IMO.

Round 3, Pick #10

Spoiler:
Stansfield: It's always the same thing. It's when you start to become really afraid of death that you learn to appreciate life. Do you like life, sweetheart?

Mathilda: Yes.

Stansfield: That's good, because I take no pleasure in taking life if it's from a person who doesn't care about it

Spoiler:

Leon, Luc Besson 1994

Spoiler:
The story about a professional assassin who suddenly has to take care of a 12 year old girl is another one of my all time favorites.

Jean Reno and Natalie Portman do a great job in this.

Luc Besson directed very well and was brave enough to cast a 11 year old girl for this quite demanding role and was rewarded by the result.

Well filmed action scenes, Gary Oldman (who almost steals this movie) and great the chemistry between Reno and Portman in this unlikely “love-story” make this movie one of the 90s best action movies.

How bout no. SPR us great tho, it changed the war genre forever, along with pretty much all action shoot em ups. They all keep trying and failing miserably to recreate the feel of that openings scene--truly one of the all time great scenes too--without half of the skill. It just isn't going to be outdone. Shaking the camera with mire vigor is not helping. It's like the imitations never actually studied the scene. They don't have the eye.

every terence malik film>any Spielberg film (altho i really liked AI)
