Round #2 Pick #30

Good Will Hunting (Gus Van Sant, 1997)

Will Hunting, a janitor at MIT, has a gift for mathematics but needs help from a psychologist to find direction in his life.

I might not be taking anywhere near the best value available here, but I'm taking a film that I love more than any other available and , like Pulp Fiction, is hugely influential on my love of movies. Van Sant brings out career best performances from Matt Damon and Robin Williams, it's a touching, moving story that contains some truly great individual scenes. The bar scene, the interview scene, Affleck's speech on friendship, and the park bench scene are just so good. It's one of those movies that has huge rewatchability, and has an incredible soundtrack from the phenomenal Elliot Smith.

some great picks in this thread. Amazing how much more I like 90s movies than 2000s moies. 2 of my definite top 10 are still left and my #2 is still on the board. Can't believe it hasn't been snatched up yet

Round #3 Pick #31

Hoop Dreams (Steve James, 1994)

A documentary following the lives of two African American boys who struggle to become college basketball players on the road to going professional.

Some people may argue it's too early to draft a documentary, but this isn't just a documentary, it's a film that is as moving and dramatic as any fiction piece. The film follows Arthur Agee and William Gates through high school as they try to make it from high school to college to the NBA. It's one of the most critically acclaimed documentaries of all time, Hoop Dreams is a rich, complex, heartbreaking, and ultimately deeply rewarding film that uses high school basketball as a jumping-off point to explore issues of race, class, and education in modern America.

Agree, there are movies that are probably "better" movies but I just really, really wanted it as it was one of the first movies I saw that I genuinely fell in love with.

I was also going to take Boogie Nights so that threw me a little when deciding what two picks to take now.

i have no problem with taking something "too high" if you want it; this is a draft to get a variety of movies you love

i was just hoping to take hunting at some point, but would have been later as i don't rank it as highly as you do on my personal list

A blockbuster of a movie. Landmark of special effects achievements. Not much needs to be said. I mean it is Jurassic ****ing Park!!!

Call it a reach, especially considering the other value on the board... But I call it a masterpiece and worthy of an early third round pick Plus, this movie holds a special place in my heart.

Round 2, Pick #29 - Boogie Nights (1997, Paul Thomas Anderson)

Indeed I have. I didn't call the short great in my write up without having seen the movie.

Jurassic Park was not high on my list, but as an action movie, is gold.

I love Good Will Hunting.
I don't remember Hoop Dreams, but from looking at lists of best of the decade, many people included it. So it seems like there was more value on that pick than you realize.

Boogie Nights was great. Paul Thomas Anderson is a fantastic director. My favorite movie of his is There Will be Blood.

love hoop dreams hate Jurassic park... didnt even really like it when it came out and i was young enough to like it for what it was trying to be, a fun action flick...

can't deny that it's use of effects to create the dinosaur scenes was pretty amazing though...

I for one I`m not offended at all, just don`t think it is a bad thing that the movie makes everyone hate the Nazis, they should be hated for what they have done.

But I of course see your guys point, was just trying to be funny:-)

PS: I`m german and I feel fine with the movie although it might not be perfect in the characterization of the Nazis or Schindler.

Round 3, pick #33

True Romance Tony Scott 1993

A real thrill ride of a movie. Lots of action, humor, twists, turns and snappy dialog from the mind of Quentin Tarantino. Very talented and deep supporting cast. This movie has entertainment value in spades. I especially liked Pitt, Hopper and Walken but the whole cast is outstanding in my mind.

I have already decided I am real bad at handicapping when movies might go in this draft. I have 2 others I would have been just as happy to take here but I'm guessing they have a better chance of dropping to my next pick than this may have. But like I said I'm not good at this

Round 1 - Silence of the Lambs
Round 2 - Glengarry Glen Ross
Round 3 - True Romance
