I tend to eat rather quickly, and it's embarrassing and annoying when the server says something like:

"wow that was fast!"
"you must have been hungry"
"I'm glad you liked it hehehe"

I just spent 8 months in china, and over there people eat much more free spirited. Spitting bones on the table, yelling at the server, shoveling food into their mouths. It was so nice to be able to eat and not feel like I'm being judged.

I'm the complete opposite -- eat really slowly and almost always the last to finish. It's annoying.

I don't know why I eat so fast. I remember when I was a kid my father was trying to lose weight and he used to say "if you see me eating fast, remind me to slow down." so every night at dinner one of the family members would whisper "dad... Slow down." pretty strange I guess. He still eats fast. So I dunno, maybe I picked it up from him.

I don't even feel like I'm eating fast, I'm just eating. But sometimes when I'm done I'm like "wow I finished that whole thing in like 2 minutes."

If you're eating alone at a restaurant I wouldn't blame you since what reasons do you have to lift your face from your plate except to take a breath. But when eating with friends it can be awkward when you're stuffing your face for the first 2-3 mins while they're talking and not even a quarter way done with their food. Then u have to stare at them eat and try and make conversation.

Try taking more sips of your drink frequently to make more time go by. Cut a piece of meat, take a sip, mashed potatoes, another sip, 2-3 fries, another sip.

go to nicer restaurants and you won't have a problem. otherwise ignore them, they are actually happy that you are eating fast and opening the table up so they can make more cash. they aren't trying to be rude.

Someone who eats both mashed potatoes and fries during the same meal has no business commenting on eating habits.

I do the same and almost without fail I get through about 3/4 of my meal and here comes the waiter ready to take the rest of the tables plates.

Why must you call the waiters 'servers'. Not like they're hosting a web page for you

Interesting. I don't think I've ever had this happen to me once.

I wouldn't sweat it.
