Trying to expand my horizons
Watched soccer on Saturday (meaningless to me, but fans were wearing their jimmies in the rustled position)
Found cricket on cable this morning.
I think I could be a cricketeering all-star, if I had a clue wtf they were doing.

I used to play when I was 7. I like watching a long test series in Summer, great background noise whilst doing something else.

Yeah, I'm Australian and I think cricket is boring.

But so is baseball and that seems to do ok in the USA

I Played Cricket at School. I was Rubbish.

I could make that ball shine though.

Which obviously is the whole point of the game.

I'm Australian and I love my cricket. Spent my whole childhood summers playing it on weekends and in the backyards with the neighbours.

As far as watching it on the telly, it goes: 5 day matches>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>20/20>>>One day matches

Is a 5 day match shown live, or do they compress it down and run "highlights"?

This. Even live, I'd imagine it's the same. A 5 day match is like going to baseball, spend all day getting drunk with mates in the sun with some sport going on in the background.

Also, they show it live and not just highlights.

I'd like to apologize for bringing up cricket and killing the thread...

Sorry.

I thought it meant we were only going to ask questions every 5 days...

Cricket is not bad in itself

But the people who like cricket and the reason they like cricket is a HUGE problem

Let's put it this way.

During the last World Cup, most Indians were happy to see their team beating the Pakistanis in cricket.

However, many of them would have been just as happy seeing the Indian players beating the Pakistani players with cricket bats.

Cricket, like soccer, the biggest rivalries are often an expression of ethnic and nationalistic hatred.

People don't really love the sport. They love to hate on the people from the other country / region.

Cheers,

S
