Must be an infant year for most people. Not so infant as when you spend most of your time crying or being upset, but not so late as when you realize that life ends and people die and you gotta work and consume life in order to simply survive, and even more so to actually enjoy stuff.
So, I think the sweetspot would be when I was 9 years old. Maybe you forgot and you think quitting your job and traveling around the world is cool. But what about not needing a job and not caring about the world? Can't top that.

If you are married and have been for a long time(most in there 40s have been) then yes it gets worse and yes it sucks....unless it is not with your wife then it is still AWESOME!

Best year......17yrs old senior year in higschool- minimal responsibility, sex with multiple women(can't really call them "women" at this age), playing varsity sports after school everyday during the week & partying every weekend.
