Noob to EDM, looking for advice please!

Cliffs Notes:
-Been listening to EDM for past 6 months (this thread led me to podcasts, sets, youtube vids, beatport, etc)
-Never been to a nightclub in my life
-Girlfriend does not listen to EDM
-Live shows/clubs look like tons of fun
-In Vegas this Tues-Weds night and looking for advice

The situation:
I've been really getting into EDM over the past several months, largely thanks to this thread. I've downloaded a lot of my favorite tracks and listen to a handful of weekly podcasts. After seeing a lot of youtube vids I think it would be a ton of fun to go to an EDM show. I imagine something like this would be amazing:

I'd be open to a variety of DJs but would be especially excited to see Alesso, Avicii, Gareth Emery, Dash Berlin, or quite a few others. Unfortunately,
a) I live in Pittsburgh = not much opportunity
b) Girlfriend listens to country, but would certainly tag along to whatever I suggest
c) I've never been to a nightclub in my life.

I go to Vegas to play poker once or twice per year, but my GF has never been. I'm changing jobs and taking a few days off, so my GF and I are going to Vegas Tues-Weds next week.

I did some research and see that there are frequently awesome DJs in several clubs there that would be perfect/fun, but doesn't look like anything for Tues-Weds except Chris Lake at Surrender on Weds night. I had never heard of him and looked up some of his sets.

I think I would need to listen to it a bunch more to even possibly "get into it" but the music he played didn't at all overlap with what I've been listening to and didn't jump out at me. I'm really hoping to have a good first experience and have my GF have a great time so that she would be open to future events, so I'm wondering if this is a good choice, if there are other choices in Vegas, or if it makes sense to punt and wait for a better opportunity in the future (=???).

In order to figure this out, I'd appreciate advice and have a couple of questions:
1) Are there other clubs in Vegas that play EDM, even if its a no-name DJ but at least playing songs I might have heard of?
2) Are clubs still fun on Wednesday nights, or will it be empty/dead and leave my GF with the impression that EDM is weird/nerdy/lame?
3) In general, do people go to these things alone or is that weird?
4) Looks like tickets to Surrender on Weds are $30/$40 = $70. Is this a normal price? Does everyone buy advance tickets or is it better to just show up?
5) Recommendation for Chris Lake vs Other vs Waiting for a better opportunity?

Thanks again!

1)Marquee is another club that you can expect to hear trance and house music, unfortunately there's nothing listed on either of the nights you're here, but it's worth noting for future as both Gareth Emery and Dash Berlin play there regularly.

2) I only go to Vegas around WSOP time and have one experience with going on a random wednesday night (which happened to be Surrender) and it was pretty enjoyable, but not 'EDM' based.

3) I don't think people do go to these sorts of things alone USUALLY, but I (and I suspect many posters ITT) would go to something alone if they were really excited about the line up. For the most part, however, I'd suggest it's considered a group activity.

4) Yes that's normal for Vegas, if not more expensive if it's a bigger DJ

5) I've not seen Chris Lake but I'd probably suggest dipping your toes in the water if you can. As much as we love to post amazing songs and sets etc, being in the crowd is a completely different experience and I'd advise you start your dance music journey as soon as possible.

Hope I've been of some help

It's probably fine to go to a club alone for the first time because you are going to dance the whole night. People will think you are on drugs. Nobody will realise you haven't been to a club before and nobody will realise you are there by yourself. Do not worry about being crap at dancing. It is unlikely that you are going to know many of the tracks, assuming it's a good DJ and not some big name who makes a living playing the same ten things every night, but you will want to make sure you pick a DJ playing the genre you like. Nobody wants to go to a D&B night when they're only in to house.

There is no way that Pittsburg does not have some kind of dance music scene - you do not need big names to make a scene. I've been deeply underwhelmed by every big live dance act I've seen, bar the Prodigy, Hybrid and Way Out West. And the last two aren't big names really - at least in a thread that uses the term EDM. /eurosnob.

It's highly likely that your girlfriend will like going to a club too. Dance music works best live. Well worth going to a bar for a couple of hours first though. I recommend not calling it EDM in case anyone European is nearby though, as they know better. Ok, now really /eurosnob.

Also, some oldskool, if you can use that word for trance:

600th whiskey induced edit: Alesso is gateway music. That clip made me want to die. I think the only reason it would work live is that everyone knows what it is, so the energy would be good. The Chris Lake thing sounded much better to me and I wonder if you'd think the same thing if you heard it live? It's for dancing to. For me, the key to using gateway music for investigating dance genres was going to clubs and hearing it live.

Well that's deflating my snobbery.

Way Out West at Glastonbury 2005 were awesome. Not the laser show kind of awesome obviously, but the live singing over a relatively new album.

For those who may not be aware, Jody Wisternoff, who's releasing loads of stuff off Anjunadeep at the moment (and will be mixing one half of Anjundadeep 05) is one half of Way Out West and his productions and DJ sets are amazing.

Hybrid are also great

http://soundcloud.com/jodywisternoff has two hours of his sets each month.

Also, Hybrid brag: saw them live at Fabric (I think) in late '99. They had half the Russian Federal Orchestra playing there. From that album:

Hi there!

I'm a fan of new wave - synthpop 1980's music and why not Eurodisco and stuff, feel I need some updating, really glad I found this thread!

Will try to blend in, but this is approximately where I'm coming from right now:

I will be there too. I love Allein and Sunburst.

Hope we get to hear the Midnight City remix, which he didn't play when he was here last summer.

Thanks for the help to you+others. I think I'm going to give it a shot and hope to have a good time. I'll post a TR.

One last question since again I'm a club noob:
-What's the difference between buying tickets and being "on the guest list"? If I buy tickets will there still be a line to get in?

Let me know how SVD is... Hes here in a few weeks and he just seems like another big room house guy now playing the same big drop tunes (his new single is utter trash).

Sorry, just to clarify - his sound is completely non-trance now. No trace of trance or tech-trance (you'll never hear any Purple Haze stuff or Bastillion or even Renegade in his sets anymore) just Spinnin' records stuff. He always stood out with super tight mixing and track selection so it just seems like a shame that he has lost his roots. The closest comparison to his older style would be KhoMha nowadays.
