pretty sure if they want to listen in on your cell calls it's easy to do and they don't need a warrant or a tap on your phone.

prob wanted your phone for contact numbers, read texts etc..

Cell phone and cordless phone calls are very easy to ease drop on.
A noisy neighbor can easily listen in to your calls using something as simple as a baby monitor.
Phone cards and land lines are your friend.
