I don't think I've had bad luck but I'm just not good at recognizing which chicks like me and which ones want to be friends

I find that whenever I try, it doesn't work out but when I don't try chicks end up liking me

As stupid as it is, and I realize this, I find that if a guy shows too much interest in me to quickly it's an automatic turnoff. Even if I was kinda starting to warm up to them, if he's too forward, game over. There are some exceptions, but generally if I guy starts flirting before I do, I for some stupid reason take it as creepy.

Do you have to hear from one of her friends that she likes you or something before you are "allowed" to show interest?
