Ok so when a girl has had a bad day why does she always feel it necessary to bring me down as well? Besides most girls definition of a bad day is like that bitch at work gave her a dirty look.

sometimes when chicks bitch we don't want to fix the problem we just want to bitch so advice isn't what we're looking for we want help and encouragment to bitch. this is how some chicks let off steam afaik.

Oh I know she doesnt want me to solve it, it can be pretty easy to let a "so why dont you..." slip out after a couple hours tho. Its just not in my nature to complain about stuff (irony ldo) so its no fun when Im trying to spend quality time with her. Doesnt happen all the time maybe 1-2 times a week but can be long and definitely is a downer for me.

So sometime (when she's not complaining) talk to her about it. Tell her you like that she likes talking to you and like that shes trusts you but that you find it hard to listen without trying to help. Try and give it a good spin like that.

Here's what you're doing wrong:

When she's bitching, she just wants to feel that you're empathizing with her. The best way to do this is not by listening and giving ideas about what you might do in her situation, no, that would actually be empathizing with her.

As I said before, this is about her wanting to feel your empathy. To accomplish this, and it can take a while to master, you must completely ignore 90% of what she's talking about. You can accomplish this a number of ways. I prefer looking at online pron or playing poker/games. (your mileage may vary if she's right there in the room with you)

When you're distracted by doing something fun, you must learn to adapt and do a very special thing.

First, you will learn to match her tone. If she's angry bitching, you can seem somewhat upset about how unfair the situation is toward her. If she's light depressed bitching, you would obviously match by softening your tone as well, because you're sad about the unfortunate events that have transpired (whatever the hell they were).

The first, I think, is the most important, but also the easiest to learn.

The second key thing is to pick up on frequent or important words. Is it a word she uses on an everyday basis? Probably not integral to the story, ignore these. Is it someone's name from work that you don't hear often? They must be involved somehow, try to remember this.

These two points should be praticed until mastered. One of the reasons for this is because when you're occupying your mind with something else. your natural male tendency to try to figure out solutions is inhibited. Not good for a real problem that demands a real solution, but as females on here have already pointed out, that has nothing to do with anything.
