Hey wimmenz of 4L serious question. I just hooked my computer up to a flat panel tv to use as a monitor. Only problem is for it to come in on the TV I have to set the resolution to 800x600 which causes everything to be funky ... like browsing 4L I can only see 2/3 of the way across the screen w/o dragging the scroll bar on the bottom. Been googling the last hour and can't find **** ...

I know you wimmenz are technical wizards and just pretty much awesome in general. How do I fix this so my computer remains usable on my tv and I don't have to switch back to my 19" monitor???

Should I put him in a bedroom so I don't have to look at him or put a hat on him?

why you have to change resolution in first place, mines
insert cable
select pc input

No dice, that would help the Internet Explorer/Mozilla but it becomes blurry and hard to read because lines of pixels get lost or something ... idk. But it doesn't help being able to tile more tables of poker. In fact now I can tile less than on my 19" monitor because I can't make them small enough to compensate for the lack of pixels even with the larger screen

That's all I thought I would have to do, but when I tried I kept on getting a "Invalid Mode Error" message. So I googled and found out:

Now, here is where you might get a little disappointed. Your TV's usual video signal is called NTSC (PAL if you live in Europe). This signal is different than the one generated by your computer. Computers use signals measured by pixels: 320x200, 320x240, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 or 1600x1200. Most TV's can only get about 500 lines of resolution, in computers this is like 500 vertical pixels. The video amplifiers in televisions cannot handle higher resolutions either. So when you factor these things together you are left with a maximum resolution of 640x480.
So I changed my resolution and it works, but it's sort of ****ty having a 800x600 resolution, so I've been trying to sort it out but it turns out I'm an idiot and can't

I mostly watch t.v. through hulu anyway so having my flat panel hooked up would be sweet ... I know people have done this before and I refuse to give up!!!

NM I'm just going to go into Best Buy or something and ask them... There's probably a converter or some **** I have to buy.

Well yeah, old tvs (crt) have ****ty resolution. Is it not a flat panel tv? I'm confused here.

Yeah, it's a 32" flat panel Samsung I got for my g/f's apartment. But since she became my ex g/f there's no way I'm letting her keep the tv, ldo. So it's just been sitting around for months ... thanks for helping Low Key ... but I think I'm just going to talk to someone in an electronics store or something, they'll know what's up and everyone here can get back to asking the women questions about their pubic hair shaving rituals as it should be.

Ah, well then best I can say is read the manual. It should say something about adjusting the TV for having a PC hooked up to it. Or maybe the samsung website.
