It depends obviously on the cologne/shower gel. I find a lot of cologne can be really strong (or the guy wears too much) which is not good, but then again my bf also had this shower gel which smelled way too strong so that can happen too. Basically either in moderation as long as they smell good, nothing too strong. I'd rather a guy smell like nothing that smell too strong of something.

did you ever try to pursue them before you got engaged? my guess would be that they were satisfied when you were pursuing (or just flirting with) them but didnt want to get held down in a "relationship" type thing. the fact that you gave them attention though made them feel wanted. now that you are engaged and your attention is on another woman it is making them jealous and they aren't feeling so wanted anymore. and therefore acting out in ******ed ways such as trying to sabotage your relationship.

Sorta long "theory" though, here's some cliffs cliffs: Women like powerful men who will dominate and **** the **** out of them, they like sex just as much as men. They're too afraid to admit it due to societal stigma, so they claim they want bull**** like humor, kindness, etc, to not look like sluts. Women like good looking men, obviously, but things like behavior/status/wealth/ and power are more important.
