This is precisely the debate gambit of Karl Rove and George Bush. Rather than debating the issue, you attack the person. How does it feel to be now practicing the argumentation that is precisely what you loathe?
You have fallen prey to the syllogism that the only reason to own firearms is to commit violence on other human beings. Syllogisms is a deeply flawed philosophical device. I am very much a utilitarian. The pragmatic fact is that having firearms, or any other specific tool has not a thing to do with murder rate. Americans kill because they are violent, not because they have a specific tool to commit violence. Bowling for Columbine reminded me of a story that Abraham Lincoln used to tell all the time. A farmboy runs into the house and tells his father that his sister and the neighbor boy have their pants down and are up in the hayloft and he thinks they are planning on peeing on the hay. The father pats the boy on the head as he rushes out to the hayloft and said "son you facts are right but your conclusions are all wrong". Moore lists off reasons that that guns have nothing to do with the murder rates in the United States and neither do violent movies, music, or video games. Somehow he then comes to the conclusion that since we have no idea why Americans are so much more violent than the rest of the world then we should just take away all the firearms until we do know. WTF??? It would be funny if it were not amazing foolish.
Proliferation of arrogance and contempt for other people is far more worthy of disdain sir. You are far better than this specific action.
