Odds of dying from a firearm homicide in the USA (3.72 per 100,000): .00372% Around one third of one hundredth of a percent.

Odds of dying from a homicide in safe Australia (1.86 deaths per 100,000): .0019%, just One twentith of one hundreth of a percent.

So just for the sake of argument, lets assume all these firearms around is what increases the rate of homicides (even though it isn't), your rate goes from .0019% to .0057%, still incredible long odds, nothing to worry about. You guys play poker right? Would you go all in if you had a .0057% chance of winning? If you think .0057% is a reasonable chance, I'd really like to play poker with you.

Just to put it in perspective, this is what your chances are from dying from other things, so lets take your line of reasoning to it's logical conclusion.

Deaths in the USA from car accidents, 15 per 100,000 which is .015% chance of dying, dramatically more than guns. Clearly we should ban cars, for the children!

Deaths in the USA from the flu, 6.7 per 100,000 which is .0067% chance of dying, the common cold is more deadly than guns.

Chance of deaths worldwide from cardiovascular diseases is 268.8 per 100,000 which is .2688% chance of dying. Being a fat ass is almost 100 times more deadly than guns, lets ban double cheeseburgers.

Chance of death worldwide from AIDS is 44.6 per 100,000 which is .0446% chance of dying. AIDS is way more deadly than guns. Lets ban anal sex!

Chance of death worldwide from giving birth is 16 per 100,000 which is .016% chance of dying. Giving birth is way more deadly than guns. Lets sterilize all women!

Chance of drowning is 6.1 per 100,000 which is .0061% chance of dying. Lets ban water!

Chance of death from lung cancer if you smoke is 191 per 100,000 which is .191% chance. Cigarettes kill more people than guns. Lets ban cigarettes.

Chance of death from lung cancer if you are not exposed to cigarette smoke is 8.7 per 100,000 which is .0087%. Smog kills more people than guns.

Chance of death from cirrhosis or liver cancer is 22.5 per 100,000 which is .0225%. Alcohol kills way more people than guns. Lets ban booze.

Chance of death from breast cancer in women is 15.3 per 100,000 which is .0153% chance. Breasts kill more people than guns, let's remove all breasts from women.

Chance of dying from diarehha worldwide is 28.9 per 100,000 which is .0289% chance of dying. Getting the ****s is way more deadly than guns.

Chance of dying from hypertension is 15.6 per 100,000 which is .0156% chance of dying. So getting all stressed out by worrying about things like guns that have a fraction of a hundredth percent chance of killing you is way more deadly than guns.

All these percentages are your chance of dying from this cause per year.

So do you feel the need to post crap on the internet about keeping your kids away from water, cars, stress, other people so they don't get sick or double cheeseburgers so they don't get fat? Because each of these things kills more people than guns.

They also showed that if you live in the city, the filthy air you breathe has more of a chance of killing you than a gun.

Also, just because half the murderers are committed with guns doesn't mean that they would not be replaced by other methods if guns were illegal.

Can't you anti's just admit that you are overblowing this whole gun death thing? It's so unlikely that it will happen. Why not ban cars, in the USA cars kill way more than guns and we only have half as many cars as guns! This is just car accidents, not counting for the additional lung cancer deaths that occur from car pollution.

C'mon now. Correlation isn't causation. It's a hell of a lot more complicated than that. If I come home early one day and see you banging my wife, I might shoot you, but not necessarily because a gun made me do it. And I might well do it even if I didn't have a gun. Dude, you're banging my wife!

Yeah, it is unlikely that it will happen. But still in the USA it is like 3-5 times as likely than in other developed Western democracies. And for the mother of a child that was shot to death it really won´t matter at all that this was a longshot.
The difference between deaths caused by lung cancer and deaths caused by firearms is that those caused by firearms are much easier to prevent.

Actually lung cancer is pretty easy to prevent. Quit smoking that cuts down on the vast majority of it. Don't live in polluted areas like cities, that gets rid of the rest.
