The OP comes across as a bit of a tool, but I do actually kind of agree with the premise of the thread title. When I grew up, kids would settle arguments by kicking and punching each other in the head and body. We called it "fighting". Nowadays it seems that all the cool kids are members of a "crew" or whatever they call themselves, and apparently the way to deal with peers who "disrespect" them is to get as many of your friends as possible to jump in a car with you, drive past the offender and shoot him in the back of the neck. I find this really annoying, as in my day anyone who couldn't settle his own arguments with his own fists was considered a wimp.

The most interesting thing about this thread is this repeating pattern:

- Anti-gun people make false claims (ex: more access to guns means more murder)
- They are shown proof that they are wrong (fact: some countries with fewer guns and stricter gun laws have higher murder rates)
- They change their claim (ex: Well, excluding third-world countries)
- They are given the example of Russia (1/10th number of guns, 500% the U.S. murder rate)
- They change claim again (Ex: It's not fair to compare a country like Russia to the U.S.)

Anti-gun people -- Please be honest with yourselves. When you made these types of claims, had you previously been aware of the statistics we've shown you? If not, then please realize that you have invented reasons to discount these facts so that you can hold on to your false beliefs. Again, please be honest with yourselves, evaluate the facts, and adjust your opinions according to reality.

For example: You believe that guns cause higher murder rates, but you don't think it's fair to consider third-world countries in an evaluation of that opinion. Why? What is it that causes higher murder rates in some third-world countries, if not guns? Is it possible that the same factors that contribute to the murder rates in the top-20 murderous nations of the world could also be a factor in the high murder rate in the U.S. AND the low murder rates in the U.K. and AU?

The saddest thing that can happen to a person's mind is for them to begin forming opinions based on pre-conceived, false assertions. "How do I feel about about legalizing drugs? Well, I am a Democrat/Republican/Libertarian/Liberal/Conservative, so I SHOULD believe X." That's fooking pathetic. Don't be that guy.

Top secret clearance jobs are usually sensitive and intelligence related. Nukes, image analysis, etc. Most people will get TS clearance upon being granted US citizenship and a background check.

There are other ways of protecting your animals from predators. We don't want the risk of letting farmers own guns to go on murderous rampages. Like everyone else apparently does.

People that value human life are not going to intentionally kill others regardless of whether or not they have access to guns, however people that do not value human life will. I want to be able to own a gun to be able to protect my wife and kids from people who are trying to do them harm.
