You're paying a lot more than 1/3 of your pay for taxes if you live in USA

I notice you didn't brag about dominating life. Apparently, this is for good reason, since you're willing to screw yourself up badly in the future in order to save a minuscule amount of money.

Uh, you can. Most states will suspend your license for failure to pay a ticket for a moving violation, and reciprocity laws mean that your license will then be suspended in ALL states. Once that is the case, you get arrested in many of them if you're pulled over while suspended, and the fines are a lot more than $281. In addition, you're looking at a potential misdemeanor conviction, and if you rack up multiple DWS violations in a particular state, it means jail time.

You are making a huge mistake. You will eventually pay a lot more than the price of the ticket. You will pay with your liberty. Be smart. Hire an local attorney who can plead it out for you. If you chose to ignore the citation, your license will be suspended and there most likely will be a warrant issued for your arrest. You will be arrested on site. All you need is for some schmuck to rear end you on I-95, and the next thing you know you will be behind bars thinking..."Gee, that tool from the 2+2 forums really knew what he was talking about. He must be an attorney or something." Also, your financial commitment to end this matter will now be much larger. Don't be a proud fool. Handle the matter.

Like he said, you can't get into serious trouble. A misdemeanor conviction?!?!?!?!?!?! OMG you'll be ruined for life

I've had my license suspended for having weed in my car and do you think I'm not going to drive? **** that. Being caught with weed shows you I don't care about your silly laws so you really think I'm going to go ride a bus instead of drive? Nope.

That's not really the point. The point is why the **** wouldn't you just pay $281 to not have your license suspended?

Im 5K miles from home. I didn't come all this way to be a lowly peasant or support deadbeats, aka everyone receiving government assistance.

Most people would consider fines in the hundreds or thousands of dollars, an arrest, potential of a record, and escalating penalties in the future if caught for the same offense since they accumulate, "serious trouble" when compared to paying $281 one time and being done with it.

We're all very impressed at your rant about getting caught with weed and thumbing your nose at the law anyway.

Failure to Appear/Suspended license=automatic cuff-slappage in US.
We ain't talkin' about Wellju's dorm room, son.

Consider the following:

Right now, they [whoever THEY are] are relocating the homeless.
Pretty sure low-level county inmates w/ traffic warrants, etc. will be NEXT.
They're saving the violent ones to draft into combat.

I agree and I would pay the fines instead of going through all the trouble but there are some people, like OP perhaps, that wouldn't. If they don't pay the initial fine what makes you think they would pay other fines?

I'm not trying to impress anyone, just giving a story.

Driving shouldn't be a privilege and they shouldn't be able to take away DL's from people (DUI's being an exception). When I got caught with weed (7grams) they put me on probation, gave me fines, and made me take a class. They also took away my DL. So how am I supposed to get to work to pay the fines and get to my classes without driving? Public transportation is not always an option. So you either don't go to work and not pay your fines or you break the law once again and do what you have to do.

Personally, and I think most others that have taken issue here would agree, I don't have any issue with the law breaking itself. The issue is OP is handling the matter like an idiot.

Everywhere.

Not paying fines results in a warrant for your arrest. I forget exactly on what grounds, never had one go that far.

I still haz a license,
[ya I know, unreal, but, WTF, in Pennsylvania the standard derelict state ID card costs just as much, I thinx they do that 2 keep black peoplez from voting, but don't quote me on that chit]

but there's all this newfangled stuffz you have 2 maintain on cars, like spark plug fluid, belt slicing, etc.:

TBQH, I wouldn't let the chucklef**ks who wrote that survey Q anywherez within 10 meters of my mtn. bike...

I think that missing court is what escalates the trouble.

Not true. If you miss court for a traffic ticket often they will just find you guilty and issue you a fine. In the instance that you actually have a bench warrant issued you may be arrested but you can often take care of it by filing a motion to withdraw the warrant.

I just don't see FTA for a traffic ticket to be a criminal record. It's def not going to hinder you from doing anything in your life.

tl;dr

just pay the fines.

not paying a ticket will result in

[ ] license suspension
[ ] bench warrant
[ ] headaches
[ ] additional fines and penalties
[ ] embarrassment of your pending arrest
[X] all of the above

no one is gona come searching for you, but there is gona be a day 10 years down the road when your driving somewhere, with no money on you, and get pulled over, license checked, and then hear the words "step out of the vehicle and turn around"

This happened to me a while back on a ticket I forgot about. There was a warrant for aprox 200 dollars. I was held there for about 25 min before he came back and said "I can't get this verified since it's a sunday afternoon. Make sure you contact them monday morning and take care of it. Have a nice day buddy" but you might not be as lucky.
